                            And the Winners Are…

Men’s and women’s champions announced in inaugural Akron Marathon Rubber 
City Race Series 

AKRON, Ohio (Oct. 13, 2015) – The points have been officially tabulated and 
the winners of the inaugural Akron Marathon Rubber City Race Series are in. 
David Petrak (Mayfield Heights, Ohio) and Teresa Ferguson (Akron, Ohio) 
claimed the men’s and women’s titles, respectively, after accumulating the 
greatest number of points over the three-race series.

More than 1,300 runners took part in all three legs of the series, which 
began in June with the Thirsty Dog 8k & 1-mile. It continued with the 
August running of the Goodyear Half Marathon & 10k, before culminating in 
September with the Time Warner Cable Akron Marathon, Half Marathon & Team 
Relay. Points and monetary awards were distributed based on placing and 
distances run.

"We were completely blown away by the number of runners who competed in all 
three legs of the series," said Akron Marathon Race Director Brian Polen. 
"We set the scoring up so that runners of all ages and all skill levels 
could compete on a level playing field, but we never could have imagined 
this much interest in our first year."

The 2015 Akron Marathon Rubber City Race Series saw more than 20,000 
participants spread across three events. The series dates were developed to 
help guide runners through a typical training schedule leading up to the 
marquee events. The 2016 events will be held June 25, August 13 and Sept. 
24. Registration is slated to open this winter.

Marathon Charitable Corporation, a non-profit group founded in 2002 to 
provide a world-class marathon and other events that promote health and

charitable organizations. This year marked the 13th running of September’s 
marquee event (Full Marathon, Half Marathon, Team Relay & Kids Fun Run), 
which has grown by more than 300 percent since its inception in 2003. The

Marathon & 10k), providing greater opportunity for participation on all
