FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Experiment 26.2 Group take on the "marathon" challenge
of completing 26.2 miles in May
26 January 2018
Have you always wanted to run a marathon but felt you didn't know where to
start? Or simply didn't think you could EVER run a marathon?
The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon has recruited 18 people from all
walks of life, who will be taking on the challenge of running a marathon
for the first time. These amazing folk form the Experiment 26.2 Group and
will be Ambassadors for the 7th May 2018 event.
Over the next few months the group will receive expert training and
nutrition advice, classes and Athletics Northern Ireland membership which
will help, motivate and support the team, ensuring they are all equipped to
take on 26.2 miles and cross the finish line on May Day!
The group have just completed their first monthly blogs, which encapsulates
their experiences so far. The thought of taking on a marathon challenge
can be very daunting but equally exciting. The Experiment 26.2 Group have
certainly conveyed this in their stories and there is no doubt that they
will all motivate each other on their marathon training journey.
Matthew Stubberfield from Translink is just one of the group taking on 26.2
miles for the first time. At 20 years old he has clocked up 4 years of
running miles already, having taken part in cross-country, 5K, 10K and half
marathon races. He's ready to take on the biggest running challenge of his
life in May.
Sarah Scott from Belfast Live and the Daily Mirror joins the group having
completed the Great North Run half marathon twice but never thought she
could take on a full marathon challenge. She recalls a friend asking her:
"Can you imagine getting to the finish line of the Great North Run and then
having to turn back and do it again?"
A daunting task but Sarah is ready for the challenge, as are the rest of
the Experiment 26.2 Group. Some have only started running in the last 12
months, demonstrating that mind over matter is very powerful; YOU could run
a marathon too!
The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon hopes that you will follow the
Experiment 26.2 Group over the coming months and help motivate and cheer
them on. You can follow their progress online at
www.belfastcitymarathon.com/training-blogs and on the event social media
sites Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
Who knows, maybe it will motivate you to take on your first running
challenge and join them on 7th May for either the Marathon Run & Wheelchair
Race, Marathon Team Relay, 8 Mile Walk or Fun Run.
SIGN UP before midnight on 28th February 2018 to avail of the current entry
