FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon launches its 2021 Events
Following a year of chaos, the organisers of the Belfast City Marathon Ltd
are delighted to open entries for their 2021 portfolio of events: Deep
RiverRock Belfast City Marathon and Virtual Half Marathon.
Due to the pandemic of COVID-19, the Company would like to welcome
participants back safely and have decided to stage their FIRST VIRTUAL Half
Marathon on May Bank Holiday Weekend (1st May – 3rd May). All runners will
complete their 13.1 race close to their home following local Government
Guidelines for exercise and social distancing. Entrants must complete the
distance in one session and upload their results before midnight on Monday
3rd May 2021.
Registered participants will receive a Decathlon tech t-shirt and medal in
their pack once the event is completed and we are thrilled to announce that
£5 from each entry fee will be donated to our official charity partner
Cancer Focus NI. Final deadline for registration is Friday 23rd April 2021
and online entry is available at www.belfastcitymarathon.com
John Allen (Chairman of Belfast City Marathon Ltd) said:
We are delighted to launch our 2021 Events in a safe manner. Moving the
Half Marathon virtually will enable everyone to get involved safely. It is
important at this time that we try to keep some type of routine and we
believe that this temporary change of order will help motivate people
physically and mentally.
The 39th Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon will now take place on Sunday
19th September and we are encouraging all to support our Event as we work
together to bring back some "normality" safely. The 2021 race will return
to a Stormont start and finish in Ormeau Park with a few revisions,
including a new Team Relay changeover point on Montgomery Road. A Fun Run
of approximately 3 miles will start and finish in Stormont this year.
Hilary Hughes, Marketing Manager at Deep RiverRock said.
"We are so proud to be the title sponsor of the Deep RiverRock Belfast City
Marathon, in this its 39th year. As Northern Ireland's favourite water
brand, we will be there on the day, taking part in the marathon. We will
ensure that runners are kept hydrated with dedicated water stations along
the 26.2-mile route and at the finish line. We will be handing out our 100%
Recycled AND Recyclable Deep RiverRock water bottles, which are all made to
make a difference. To everyone taking part in the marathon in September, we
wish you the very best of luck with your training, enjoy every step of it,
stay hydrated and I look forward to cheering you on & seeing you cross the
finish line in Ormeau Park".
Kathryn Holland, Outdoor Events Manager, Cancer Focus NI, said:
"We are delighted to be the official charity for this year's events. We are
very grateful to all our faithful supporters who we know will be signing up
to run for us. We'd encourage as many people as possible to train and take
part in the Virtual Half Marathon in May - not only will you be keeping
yourself fit and upbeat, you'll also be helping us to continue providing
our vital services to local cancer patients and their families at this very
difficult time. We also look forward to seeing you in September for a full
programme of races."
Entries are available at www.belfastcitymarathon.com and final entry for
the Full Marathon (September Event) so why not "Run through the Seasons"
and build your miles for our first and only Autumn Marathon?
The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon is sponsored by Deep RiverRock,
Athletics Northern Ireland, Daily Mirror, Belfast City Council, Decathlon,
Better, Cool FM (Downtown Radio and Downtown Country), Translink, SPAR,
