2023 Bismarck Marathon Breaks Finisher Records
Multiple races saw their highest registration totals
in the 42-year history.
The Bismarck Marathon presented by MDU Resources completed its 42nd year
Saturday after its first event at the North Dakota State Capitol Grounds.
A total of 1,834 runners crossed the finish line across the three days, the
most since records began being kept in 2007. The event also saw the MDU
Resources Full Marathon, Touchstone Energy Half Marathon, Sanford Health
10K, and SCHEELS 5K break registration records in their respective race
lengths.
A record number of volunteers were a part of the 2023 race, with 415 total
volunteers supporting runners along the route in various roles.
Orinthal Striggles, a 47-year-old from Columbia, SC, was the fastest to
complete the Full Marathon with a time of 2:50:39. Reagan Roth, a
29-year-old from Bentonville, AR, was the fastest female runner in the Full
Marathon, with a time of 3:13:16.
The Bismarck Marathon is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, committed to
supporting local charities, specifically charities that benefit youth,
health, and wellness. The beneficiaries of the 2023 charitable donations
will be announced in the coming weeks. In 2022, the Bismarck Marathon made
a donation of $31,350 to 35 local charitable organizations.
The Bismarck Marathon recognized two inaugural recipients of the Beiswanger
& Nash Friend of the Bismarck Marathon Award for their tireless work to
promote running, fitness, and advance the cause of the Bismarck Marathon in
the local community and throughout North Dakota and the region. The award
was presented to Lynn Beiswanger and David Nash prior to the race on
Saturday, the two longtime co-race directors of the Bismarck Marathon.
About The Bismarck Marathon
The Bismarck Marathon is North Dakota’s longest-running marathon in
Bismarck, North Dakota which occurs on the second weekend of September
every year. The event features a full marathon, half marathon, relay, 10k,
5k, and free community day with races for the kids and more. The Bismarck
Marathon is proud to be recognized as the USTAF Dakotas Championship for
its half marathon and 10K. The race attracts runners from across the region
and has become a highlight of the local running community.
