Raleigh City of Oaks Marathon and Rex Healthcare Half Marathon
Growing Race Event Returns to Downtown Raleigh on November 1
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (February 3, 2015) – The Raleigh City of Oaks
Marathon Race Committee has announced the ninth annual Raleigh City of Oaks
Marathon and Rex Healthcare Half Marathon. The event is scheduled for the
morning of Sunday, November 1, 2015. Online registration is now available
through the official race website, www.cityofoaksmarathon.com.
The celebrated, homegrown event hosts more than 5,500 participants from
across the nation and the globe. The race committee is expecting record
numbers again this year and has expanded registration to accommodate 7,000
runners.
The races start and finish at N.C. State University's Bell Tower and
showcase Raleigh's most picturesque spots, including the State Capitol
Building, Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, the Glenwood South
restaurant district, and Meredith College. Like last year's event, this
year's marathon course features a 7-mile stretch along the scenic Capital
Area Greenway trail system.
"It's a race that gets it right," said Race Founder Jim Micheels. Micheels
established the Raleigh City of Oaks Race in 2007 with the intention of
bringing a prestigious running event to the city of Raleigh, one that would
draw thousands of runners and spectators and would have a meaningful impact
on its beneficiaries.
"The race was created and produced by passionate runners, people who are
dedicated to the details of racing," Micheels said. "Plus we have more than
700 race volunteers and unbelievable community support—support for our
runners and for our beneficiaries. It makes this race something we are
truly proud to be a part of."
Each year, the event raises thousands of dollars for health-related
beneficiaries. This year's event will benefit the Rex Healthcare Foundation
and the YMCA "We Build People" program. With a combined cash purse of
$10,500 and a wide participation base, the Raleigh City of Oaks Marathon
and Rex Healthcare Half Marathon has established itself as the area's
premier marathon event.
The day's events also include a marathon relay, a new half-marathon relay,
and a kids' "marathon" mile sponsored by the YMCA. All races start and
finish at the N.C. State University Bell Tower and begin at 7:00 a.m. The
YMCA Kids' Marathon Mile sets off at 7:20 a.m.
