RALEIGH CITY OF OAKS MARATHON AND REX HEALTHCARE HALF MARATHON
RETURN ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1
Limited road closures expected for Raleigh's hometown marathon event
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (October 24, 2015) - The ninth annual Raleigh City
of Oaks Marathon, Rex Healthcare Half Marathon, and Old Reliable 10K Run
will take place on the morning of Sunday, November 1, 2015. Roads in
downtown Raleigh and the Hillsborough Street corridor will be closed and
then reopened on a rolling basis throughout the morning. Area residents
have been notified, and closures are posted through the race website:
cityofoaksmarathon.com/course_info/road_closures.html.
The celebrated, homegrown event hosts more than 5,000 participants from
across the nation and the globe. The 2014 event raised more than $30,000
for the race's beneficiaries. This year's event will benefit the Rex
Healthcare Foundation and the YMCA "We Build People" program.
The races start and finish at N.C. State University's Bell Tower and
showcase Raleigh's most picturesque spots, including the State Capitol
Building, Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, the Glenwood South
restaurant district, and Meredith College. Like last year's event, this
year's marathon course features a 7-mile stretch along the scenic Capital
Area Greenway trail system.
"People are enjoying the challenge of the long-distance events," says Race
President and Founder Jim Micheels. "The City of Oaks races offer a diverse
landscape, great crowd support, and a sense of community."

The day's events also include a marathon relay, a new half marathon relay,
and a kids' "marathon" mile sponsored by the YMCA. The marathon, half
marathon, and 10K events start and finish at the N.C. State University Bell
Tower and begin at 7:00 a.m. The kids' mile goes off at 7:20 a.m.

The Raleigh City of Oaks Marathon and Rex Healthcare Half Marathon were
established by local runners in 2007 with the intention of bringing a
prestigious running event to the city of Raleigh, one that would draw
thousands of runners and spectators and would have a meaningful impact on
its beneficiaries. The race offers a combined cash purse of $8,000 for the
26.2-mile marathon and 13.1-mile half marathon, plus commemorative awards
and other giveaways.
