INAUGURAL COASTAL DELAWARE RUNNING FESTIVAL A SUCCESS
August 11, Dewey Beach, DE – The inaugural Coastal Delaware Running
Festival was a full-out success! Dubbed "Delaware's Coolest Marathon" and
designated by VacationRentalHomes.com, a Trip Advisor Company, as the "Best
Marathon in Delaware" the inaugural Coastal Delaware Running Festival took
place on Sunday, May 3. The Race was designated as a State of Delaware
Championship event by the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) the race is a
Boston Marathon qualifying race. The races were organized by Certified
Race Directors Rick Hundley and Ernie Felici, of Focus MultiSports.
More than 1,800 runners participated in the full and half marathons and 9k.
In addition to being a celebration of runners and their sport, the festival
brought lots of excitement to Dewey Beach and the surrounding areas.
Furthermore, the Festival was also a fundraiser for several local
organizations. To date, more than $30,000 in gifts has been made.
One of the Coastal Delaware Running Festival's recipients was the Delaware
Seashore Preservation Foundation (DSPF), a Friends Group supporting
Delaware State Parks. The DSPF is a non-profit organization that was
created to preserve, protect and enhance the Indian River Life Saving
Station, and the Parks within the Delaware Seashore State Park Region
including the Indian River Marina, Delaware Seashore, Fenwick Island and
Holts Landing State Parks whose most recent undertaking is the restoration
of WWII Fire Control Tower #3 with The Fort Miles Historical Association.
In June, a gift of $15,000 to Delaware Seashore Preservation Foundation's
General Fund and a gift of $5,000 to Delaware Seashore Preservation
Foundation's Tower 3 Project were made.
Focus Multi-Sports also contributed a total of $10,000 to the following
groups: Autism Delaware, Autism Speaks, The Delaware Kids Fund, Delaware
State Police Troop 7 Exploring Post, Friends of Holts Landing State Park,
Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park, Fort Miles Historical Association,
Marine Education Research and Rehabilitation (MERR) Foundation, Preston's
March for Energy, Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, Rehoboth Beach
Sunrise Rotary Club, Rehoboth YMCA Swim Team, Sussex Central Boosters, and
Seashore Striders Youth Running Club.
Ernie Felici said, "We believe in these worthy non-profits' missions and
wanted to help them promote their causes in order to do more good work for
the community. Not too bad for the first year! We were grateful to the
many runners, sponsors, especially Harvey Hanna Associates, owners of the
Dewey Beach Hyatt Place & Lighthouse Cove, Peninsula Oil, the Towns of
Dewey Beach, Rehoboth Beach, and Lewes, Deldot, Sussex EMS, RACES Radio
Club, Delaware State Parks, and many volunteers to help make these
contributions possible."
