FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MetroPCS Dallas Marathon Launches Free Mobile App
DALLAS (Dec. 10, 2014) - Organizers of the Dec. 14 MetroPCS Dallas
Marathon, Half Marathon and Behringer Relay today announced the launch of
the first MetroPCS Dallas Marathon mobile app. The app is designed to
provide participants and spectators with MetroPCS Dallas Marathon race
weekend tips and information in an easy-to-use and interactive platform.
The app is free and available for iOS users.
"Our goal is to provide runners and fans with race information in new and
exciting ways," said Patrick Byerly, president of the Dallas Marathon.
"Race participants will have all the information they need at their
fingertips, and spectators can use our viewing recommendations or advanced
runner tracking to personalize a much more memorable race day."
Runner Tracking
In partnership with RTRT.me, runner tracking is searchable via the app by
name, bib number or city. Estimated participant locations will be plotted
on an interactive course map, making it possible for spectators to find
approximate locations of specific participants on race day. Text
notifications, as well as real-time Facebook and Twitter notifications, are
also available through MetroPCS Dallas Marathon runner tracking. Behringer
Relay team members are tracked along the course according to their team
name, not as individual team members.
Interactive Maps
In addition to course maps for the marathon, half marathon, Behringer Relay
and Cigna Mayor's Race 5K Presented by Oncor, the Dallas Marathon app
features maps layered by interest. Specific maps detail the Health and
Fitness Expo, recommended spectator viewing points for race day, and road
closures, complete with written detour directions. Each map can be synched
with a user's GPS to drop flags at points of interest (e.g., where one
parked) or locate the user on the map display. A real-time parking finder
allows users to see available parking lots for their desired search
location and parking lot costs.
Runner and Spectator Information
Users can easily access detailed race weekend information, tips and
frequently asked questions to enhance their race weekend experience.
Around Town
Users can find race weekend promotions from popular Dallas restaurants,
coffee shops, hotels and more. Each recommendation is searchable for
driving directions within the app.
Social Wall
Rolling streams of all Facebook, Twitter and Instagram content using the
hashtags #werundallas, #dallasmarathon and #metropcsdallasmarathon are
aggregated into the app. Users can also access their device's photos
directly from the app and upload to their social media channels using
custom MetroPCS Dallas Marathon photo frames.
Race Buzz
Find the latest information on memorable race weekend activations featuring
Elite Ambassadors, Behringer Relay Challenges and the live television
broadcast. Details on donation opportunities to the race's primary
beneficiary, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, are also available.
The app also allows users to link to the live stream of the race broadcast
via WFAA.com.
