Alliance Technologies to Sponsor Des Moines Marathon
Leading IT Solutions Partner Takes Prominent Role in Inaugural Event
Des Moines, IA - Des Moines will be the site of a new running event this
fall. The inaugural run of the Des Moines Marathon, which will be held
Sunday, October 6, will showcase the City of Des Moines' diverse community
and unique heritage. Alliance Technologies, a locally owned IT Solutions
Partner with offices in Des Moines and West Palm Beach, Florida, has been
named the Title Sponsor of the event.
"We are excited about the marathon," said Steve Sikkink, Executive Vice
President of Alliance Technologies. "The course layout and volunteer
structure are designed to promote Des Moines and encourage community-wide
participation. It's an event everyone, young and old, should be able to
participate in. Personally, I've run eight marathons and am excited to
help bring a national-class event such as this to Des Moines."
Runners in the marathon will travel a 26.2-mile course. Downtown Des
Moines will be the starting and finishing point of the race with the course
taking runners past the State Capitol, Terrace Hill, Drake Stadium, Art
Center, Science Center and through Water Works Park. The picturesque final
leg through downtown Des Moines brings racers to the finish on the Des
Moines River in the shadow of the Iowa State Capitol. The course is
spectator-friendly and is an ideal run for first-time marathoners. The
course serves as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.
The event is also open to two-person relay teams for those interested in
running half a marathon. Walkers are also encouraged to participate in the
event. All participants will use a Champion computer chip to record time.
Any participant requiring additional time to finish the course will be
allowed to start one and a half hour prior to the official start time, in
order to finish with the other runners.
Helene Neville, founder and director of the marathon said "Alliance
Technologies has embraced the title sponsorship at a critical time. Any
first-time event is tough to promote, but Alliance Technologies' commitment
and enthusiasm will help make our inaugural marathon a success."
The weekend will also include a Marathon expo, pasta dinner, kids' .2-mile
marathon and post-race celebration. Marathon weekend will be a three-day
celebration of sports, fitness, health and wellness. Other current
sponsors include KDSM FOX 17, Iowa State Bank, West Bank,
MarathonGuide.com, Coca-Cola and Townsend Engineering. Additional
sponsors, volunteers and runners are actively being sought to support the
inaugural event. To find out more about the Alliance Technologies Des
