         Edinburgh Marathon Festival honoured at Thistle Awards

Edinburgh, November 12th, 2015 -- The Edinburgh Marathon Festival was 
awarded the Best Sporting Event within the Central South East region at the 
Scottish Thistle Awards regional finals on Wednesday

The majestic Prestonfield House played host to the black tie event which 
also incorporated the Fife & Tayside regional finals. Guests were treated 
to a drinks reception, three course meal and entertainment from St Andrew’s 
university all-male a cappella ensemble, The Other Guys. 

The awards were presented by Stephen Jardine and brought together a host of 
different businesses all excelling in their respective fields. Categories 
covered everything from the friendliest pub to the most hospitable hotel to 
the best outdoor or adventure experience.

And it was the Best Sporting Event category which was won by the Edinburgh 
Marathon Festival to the delight of Marketing Manager Annette Drummond who 
was on stage to collect the impressive trophy and certificate to mark the 
achievement. 

She said: "It's nice to be recognised in what's been an extremely busy year 
for us. It goes without saying that the Edinburgh Marathon Festival would 
not happen without the volunteers, marshals and of course the runners who 
have helped make the event what it is today, so a massive thank you to 
them. We're already well under way in our preparations for EMF 2016!"

The 14th edition of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival takes place on 
28th-29th May. Marathon entries have sold out for the past 6 years and look 
set to reach capacity at the end of December. For more information visit

ADDITIONAL NOTES
The Edinburgh Marathon Festival weekend on Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 
29 2016 includes the full marathon as well as the half marathon, a 10K, a 
5K, two junior races and the increasingly popular team relay marathon, 
affectionately called the Hairy Haggis Team relay.

Together with the Edinburgh Marathon Festival official charity, Macmillan 
Cancer Support and more than 200 other charities, the organisers are hoping 
to raise more than £4.5 million this May which will be the 14th Edinburgh 
Marathon Festival.

Standard entries for the full marathon close at the end of December 2015. 
The Edinburgh Marathon has joined the world’s elite road races by becoming 
the first in Scotland to be officially recognized by the International 
Association of Athletics Federations, the athletics governing body. The 
IAAF bronze label now puts the Edinburgh Marathon among the top 75 in the 
world making it a pivotal part of the sporting calendar for runners.
