Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon Entry Forms To Be Mailed February 23, 2005
First lottery drawing is on Friday, February 25
Duluth, Minn.: Run half the distance and have just as much fun by
participating in the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon during the 2005
Grandma's Marathon Weekend! Entry forms for the 15th annual Garry Bjorklund
Half Marathon, scheduled for June 18, will be mailed on Wednesday, February
23, 2005 to individuals who have requested them. Requests for forms are
still being taken by calling (218) 727-0947, or by sending a
self-addressed, stamped #10 business sized envelope to: Grandma's Marathon,
P.O. Box 16234, Duluth, MN 55816.
The 13.1-mile race is limited to 4,500 participants, and registration is
done through a lottery system. Three random lottery drawings will be held
according to the following schedule:
1,000 entries pulled – Friday, February 25
2,000 entries pulled – Wednesday, March 2
1,500 entries pulled – Monday, March 7
4,500 total entries drawn
"The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon has grown to be a very popular race in
the running community. We implemented the lottery system back in 1999 to
give people living outside of the Duluth/Superior Area a chance to
register. The system has worked extremely well, and now runners from all
corners of nation are participating in the race," says Scott Keenan,
executive director of Grandma's Marathon.
Registration for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon is through mail only.
Walk-in registration or overnight mail services are not permitted.

The 2005 Grandma's Marathon weekend begins on Thursday, June 16 with the
SMDC Health and Fitness Expo and continues on Friday, June 17 with the
Michelina's All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner, Whipper Snapper Races for
Kids, guest speaking presentations and the William A. Irvin 5K (6:00 p.m.).
The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and Grandma's Marathon are on Saturday,
June 18, 2005 beginning at 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., respectively. In all,
over 16,000 runners and 40,000 – 50,000 race fans from across the globe are
expected to participate in Grandma's Marathon Weekend.
