FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Third International Chisinau Marathon in the History of Moldova
Over the last few decades, the cult of healthy lifestyle has become
increasingly popular all over the world. Marathon runs is one step towards
popularizing sport. Marathon races are held every year in almost all of the
world's biggest cities, gathering over 50,000 runners at once.
In 2015, the non-governmental organization Sporter (read more about Sporter
at the end of the article) came forward with an initiative to foster the
tradition of holding an annual international marathon in Chisinau, capital
of the Republic of Moldova. As a matter of fact, the previous running event
was a 42-km marathon, held back in 1986.
Thus, on 26 April, 2015, The First International Chisinau Marathon was run
in Moldova. The event was organized by Sporter, and it gathered 10,000
runners from 30 countries. Both amateur and professional sportsmen
participated in races for 42 km 195 m, 21 km 0975 m, 10 km, and 3 km.
All finishers in the Chisinau Marathon received a custom medal, executed in
traditional style with a pixels logo design on it.
The pixels design is not a chance occurrence. It is well known that
traditional patterns on Moldovan carpets bear geometric motifs, which in
computer graphics turned into plain pixels. This is a trendy and up-to-date
solution, which very well complies with the marathon status- nearly the
most important sports event in people's lives. The colours of the logo also
link to Moldova. They represent the national colours: blue, yellow, and
red.
One year apart, on 17 April, 2016, the second edition of the International
Chisinau Marathon took place, and then it was included in AIMS (The
Association of International Marathons and Distance Races). This was a
record edition because over 15,000 participated in it, having raced 42 km
195 m, 21 km 0975 m, 10 km, and 3 km. The British Embassy in Moldova
provided support to the running competition, and the ambassador himself ran
a 10-km race. It should be mentioned that sportsmen from 50 countries
participated in the event.
This year, Sporter will organize the International Chisinau Marathon with
support from AIMS. This year's edition was postponed for autumn since
spring is quite hot in sunny Moldova. Now, 1 October, 2017, is announced as
the official date of the event. The number of courses increased. The
participants are free to choose to run the full marathon distance of 42 km
195 m or half-marathon distance of 21 km 0975 m, 10 km, 5 km or 1,5 km Fun
Run. Race start will be announced at 09:00 A.M. on the Great National
Assembly Square. Registration is now open at www.marathon.md. The Chisinau
Marathon is a qualifying competition for participation in the Boston
Marathon.
Beside running races organization, Sporter is occupied in organizing other
sporting events such as bicycle racing, open water swimming, free diving,
and triathlon. The sporter.md web site is the most visited sports site in
Moldova, with a total of over 12,000 subscribers. Sports news, calendar of
events, reports on sporting events held locally and abroad with media
support from Sporter - all these are daily published on the web site.
As part the NGO Sporter, the "Sporter Club" sports club offers training
help in running, cycling, swimming, and diving. Besides, Sporter organizes
Sporter Travel trips outside Moldova to participate in running, swimming,
bicycle racing, and triathlon international marathons.
At the end, it's worth mentioning that for the last 3 years, Sporter has
considerably changed the lives of people in Moldova, by accustoming many of
them to sports and to keeping a healthy lifestyle. All this is being done
for the good of society, not for financial or material benefit, and only
for the promotion of sport at the domestic level.
