IN ITS 2ND YEAR, LAKESHORE MARATHON ANNOUNCES
INNOVATIVE COMMUNITY AND ORGANIZATIONAL INITIATIVES FOR THE FUTURE
CHICAGO, May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Preparing for the 2003 Chicago Lakeshore
Marathon, running Sunday, May 25, 2003; Race Director Mark Cihlar today
announced several key community and organizational initiatives that
Lakeshore Marathon Company launched to drive the event's future. The
initiatives, already underway, are timed to begin serving the Chicago
community during the Memorial Day weekend at The 2nd Annual Chicago
Lakeshore Marathon's starting line.
"These initiatives define the future of The Chicago Lakeshore Marathon,
providing a network of resources and services that the community will
benefit from for years to come," Cihlar said. "Lakeshore Marathon Company
is committed to providing the Chicagoland region with real value and
services geared towards sustainable community development and growth."
The initiatives that the marathon rolled out are the first 5 modules
fitting the organization's sustainable community development mission.
Cihlar founded Lakeshore Marathon Company with the overarching mission to
provide community outreach and cross-networking opportunities to community
organizations, businesses, and individuals through staging a major
community sports event. LMC has partnered with The Foval Group to develop
and execute the modules.
The initiatives announced are as follows ...
Community Development and Organizational Innovation Initiative (CDOI): A
community economic and neighborhood development project that will focus on
fostering new and creative organizations and businesses in the Chicago
area. This initiative will focus on mentoring entrepreneurs, activists,
community organizations, and not-for-profits through the intricacies of
running a network-centric, globally-connected, yet community-focused modern
organization. This program will be developed by a team of thought leaders
including project managers from The Chicago Lakeshore Marathon, The Foval
Group, RCPA & Associates, Chicago Special Events Management, and Event
Resources; the companies that execute The Chicago Lakeshore Marathon. The
program will also include input from a global base of organizational DNA
experts, including members of the business community, activist community,
political leadership, and spiritual leadership.
Open Organizational DNA Initiative (OODI): An open-source project to drive
development of an electronic business process platform to support the
Community Development and Organizational Innovation Initiative, and
Community Services Delivery Initiative. This platform, to which all
affiliated participants and organizations will have access under an
open-source license agreement, will automate and support communications,
financial, administration, and other business processes using resources
provided by sponsor companies and organizations. Project management and
execution will be an ongoing effort, mentoring members of the local and
global community, students, hobbyists, and other interested persons.
Open Communications Platform Initiative (OCPI): An open-source project to
drive development of an emergency and administrative communications system
to support the operations of The Chicago Lakeshore Marathon and other
community events, including large sporting events, festivals, activist
events, as well as the operations of affiliated participants and
organizations. Project management and execution will be an ongoing effort,
mentoring members of the local and global community, students, hobbyists,
and other interested persons.
Open Media Platform Initiative (OMPI): An open-source project to drive
development of a digital multimedia production and delivery system,
including broadcast quality video, audio, and web presentations to support
the operations of The Chicago Lakeshore Marathon and other community
events, including large sporting events, festivals, activist events, as
well as the operations of affiliated participants and organizations.
Project management and execution will be an ongoing effort, mentoring
members of the local and global community, students, hobbyists, and other
interested persons.
Community Services Delivery Initiative (CSDI): An initiative to coordinate,
manage, and utilize the resources of the CDOI, OODI, OCPI, OMPI, affiliate
organizations and individuals to deliver services and resources to the
community at large. This initiative will be the coordinating project for
the other initiatives, and will be the scheduling interface for communities
to take advantage of their products in order to enhance the quality of life
of citizens and visitors to the Chicagoland area. Project management and
execution will be an ongoing effort, mentoring members of the local and
global community, students, hobbyists, and other interested persons.
Cihlar also announced that the 2003 Chicago Lakeshore Marathon is on track
for this year's event. "We have received incredible support from the local
community in planning and executing this year's race," Cihlar said. "Along
with the endorsement of scores of community leaders, we have added partners
that specialize in large complex events and share our vision and mission of
sustainable community development."
Cihlar announced that The Foval Group, RCPA & Associates, Chicago Special
Events Management, and Event Resources are partners on this year's race. He
