Little Rock Marathon Seeing A Sharp Increase In Registrations
LITTLE ROCK, AR (February 17, 2004) -- With less than three weeks remaining
before race day, registration for the 2005 Little Rock Marathon, presented
by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, has increased more than 25% from one year
ago, race officials have announced.
The 3rd annual event, which will feature a new course, a $17,000 cash purse
for the top winners, new host hotel and new start times on the 5K and
Little Rockers Kids Marathon, will be held March 6 at 7:50 a.m. in downtown
Little Rock at Capitol Avenue and Cross Street.
"We now have entrants from 43 states and six countries," said Greg Hatcher,
Little Rock Marathon Race Chairman. "More than 32% of the participants
currently registered are from outside the state. We are getting tons of
phone calls and emails from people who have never visited Arkansas, which
tells me we will see more than 6,000 participants on race day."
"Our numbers are up because of the article in Runner's World last month,"
said Hatcher. "Being named one of the best marathons in the country by an
internationally published magazine like Runner's World helps get the word
out, but our goal is to keep those people coming back and hope they bring a
couple friends each year."
Registration forms are still available at all Little Rock Parks &
Recreation facilities, participating sponsors, fitness centers and health
clubs across the state, as well as online at www.littlerockmarathon.com.
It is $75 to enter the marathon, $55 to enter the half marathon, $45 (per
person) to enter the relay marathon, $25 to enter the 5K and $10 to enter
the Little Rockers Kids Marathon. All fees go up race weekend.
