2016 SKECHERS PERFORMANCE LOS ANGELES MARATHON ANNOUNCES ELITE FIELD
Defending Men's Champion Daniel Limo Returns
to Run the Iconic "Stadium to the Sea" Course
LOS ANGELES (February 10, 2016) — Conqur Endurance Group will welcome a
world-class group of elite runners from around the globe to the 2016
Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday, February 14th.
Defending Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon men's champion Daniel
Limo (Kenya, 2015) and former winner Erick Mose (Kenya, 2013) join the
elite field of 27 male and female athletes vying for the 2016 title.
"We look forward to welcoming a solid group of elites to Los Angeles for an
epic running weekend," said Tracey Russell, Chief Executive of Conqur
Endurance Group. "Watching the top American elites compete in the U.S.
Olympic Team Trials Marathon on February 13th, the day before, will be such
an inspiration to all runners, and we're eager to see how the field fairs
on the 'Stadium to the Sea' course the following day. Having two former
champions go head-to-head will add to the excitement."
Daniel Limo returns to defend his 2015 title, when he finished in a time of
2:10:36. Limo's personal best stands at 2:08:39, a time he recorded in a
second place finish at the 2011 La Rochelle, France Marathon.
The 2013 Los Angeles Marathon men's champion, Erick Mose broke away from
the pack at Mile 6 and completed the race in 2:09:44, his recorded personal
best. In 2015, Mose placed 6th overall at the Houston Marathon.
Out to challenge Limo and Mose will be fellow Kenyans Dominic Ondoro and
Weldon Kirui. Ondoro currently holds the fastest time out of the entire
elite field, at 2:08:00. In 2014, Ondoro broke the 33-year old record for
the Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, besting the record by a margin of 31
seconds. Kirui returns to the "Stadium to the Sea" course this year after a
fourth place finish in 2013. Kirui's personal best of 2:09:06 was recorded
at the 2012 Eindhoven Marathon.
Headlining the international women's field are accomplished Ethiopian
runners Abnet Simegn and Abrha Serkalem, who are both ranked in the top 200
women in the world. In 2015, Simegn placed 15th in the women's division of
the Los Angeles Marathon. In January, she won the Carlsbad Half Marathon
with a time of 1:11:23. At the end of 2015, Serkalem won the 33rd annual
California International Marathon. She ran the last six miles alone and
finished the race in 2:31:29.
On the day before the annual Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon,
Conqur Endurance Group is proudly hosting the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials
Marathon on February 13, 2016. For the first time in event history, the
Trials will be broadcast live nationally on NBC. The Trials will deliver a
