Marine Corps Marathon Health & Fitness Expo Is Epicenter of Inspiration
Free Three-Day Event Showcases Apparel, Technology and Exercise
At DC Armory
QUANTICO, VA (October 18, 2013) - "What do you do before running a
marathon?" Join 30,000 fellow inspired marathon and MCM10K runners and
thousands more motivated area residents at the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM)
Health & Fitness Expo presented by GE at the DC Armory. The Expo from
Thursday, Oct. 24 through Saturday, Oct. 26 is free and open to the public
with plenty of free parking available and convenient Metro access. The DC
Armory is located at 2001 E. Capitol Street SE Washington, D.C.
The Health & Fitness Expo is MCM Weekend's kick-off event that serves to
welcome runners to the nation's third largest marathon and the accompanying
10K event. Runners attend the Expo to officially check-in and obtain the
participant bib, event program and, new this year, the technical mock neck
shirt, featuring an upgraded moisture transport fabric replacing the
traditionally-provided cotton.
All MCM and MCM10K participants are required to present their E-Card and
photo ID in the runners-only Packet Pick-up tent across from the Armory to
be issued the bib and UPS baggage sticker. Safety screening points will be
set up at the tent, as well as at the Armory's main entrance.
Overflowing with enthusiasm, the exhibit floor buzzes with runners from all
50 states, 48 countries and their supportive family and friends. More than
200 exhibitors showcase fitness products and equipment, offer food samples
and product giveaways and provide health screenings and first-hand access
to exercise experts. Feature exhibitors include GE and its In-Body body
mass analyzer; Brooks proprietors of the MCM apparel store; Aetna with
complimentary massages; and USAA with the inspiration wall.
Throughout MCM Weekend, runners should follow the MCM's Twitter feed
(@Marine_Marathon) for the chance to win one of 38 extra special SuperSize
goodie bags. The awesome prize bags will randomly be distributed at MCM
events with clues provided by the MCM over Twitter. Some of the SuperSize
goodie bags include running shoes from Brooks, Mini iPads from First
Command, BlackBerry Z10s and Q10s, gift cards from Dunkin Donuts, cash
cards from GEICO and event tickets from Comcast SportsNet. Other
participating partners include MarathonFoto, Lasting Commemoratives, Hyatt
Regency Washington on Capitol Hill and NBC4 Washington. All SuperSize bags
contain a limited edition 38th MCM coin provided by Warrior Chip.
The first SuperSize goodie bag will be awarded at the Expo grand opening
ceremony starting at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24. The ceremony is open
to the public.
Hours for the Expo are Thursday, Oct. 24 from 4-8 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 25
from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Visitors can
take Metro's blue or orange lines to the Stadium/Armory station. Additional
parking is available in Lot #3 outside the DC Armory.
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is the third largest marathon in the United
States and voted "Best Marathon in the Mid Atlantic," "Best Marathon for
Charities" and "Best Spectator Event." The MCM honors the dedication,
sportsmanship and patriotism of its participants. Also known as "The
People's Marathon," runners from all walks of life participate in the MCM,
which is the largest marathon not to offer prize money. The 38th MCM
sponsored by Arlington, Boeing, Brooks and GE, will be held on October 27,
2013 in Arlington, VA. No federal or Marine Corps endorsement is implied.
