Potomac River Running of Arlington Recognized as Winner of
2013 MCM Running Store Competition
QUANTICO, VA (February 6, 2014) - Potomac River Running Store of
Arlington, VA was presented a championship plaque by the Marine Corps
Marathon (MCM) Director Rick Nealis in a ceremony at the store on Jan. 29.
The award is presented to the DC-area running store with the fastest
combined team time during the annual MCM, held on Oct. 27, 2013. Potomac
River Running stores has continued its tradition of "running" this
competitive category as one of the retail store's teams has earned this
award for the past five consecutive years.
"I think the PR Racing team has been so successful at MCM over the years
because many of our team members really enjoy racing where they
train...meaning local," explained Ray Pugsley, owner, Potomac River
Running Stores. "Rather than seeking races all over the East Coast, many
prefer to perform in front of the home crowd."
Winning times are calculated by combining the individual chip times of the
top three finishers, including at least one male and one female. The
Arlington team finished with a combined time of 8:42:53. Runners
contributing to the winning time were Dustin Whitlow (2:46:10) of
Washington, D.C., who also placed 72nd overall in the men's field. He was
followed closely by fellow team member Ryan Johnson (2:47:10) of Silver
Spring, MD, who ranked 78th among male finishers. Rounding out the team
was Deedee Loughran (3:09:33) of Reston, VA, who placed 42nd in the MCM
women's field.
"It's part of the MCM's mission to promote community goodwill, and that's
just what we're doing by connecting with local running stores and
especially their patrons," said Nealis. "These specialty retailers embody
the core of our sport and continue to provide support to runners of all
experience levels."
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is the third largest marathon in the
United States, eighth largest in the world and voted "Best Marathon in the
Mid Atlantic" and "Best Marathon for Spectators." The MCM honors the
dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism of its participants. Also known
as "The People's Marathon," runners from all walks of life participate in
the MCM, which is the largest marathon not to offer prize money. The 39th
MCM will be held on Oct. 26, 2014 in Arlington, VA and throughout the
nation's capital. No federal or Marine Corps endorsement is implied.
