FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Marine Corps Marathon Lottery to Close March 15
Marathoners Have Limited Time To Pursue Access To October Event
QUANTICO, VA (March 11, 2014) - The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) Lottery
will close at noon Eastern this Saturday, March 15 leaving just days for
runners to enter the Lottery pool. Runners may complete the MCM Lottery
entry online at www.marinemarathon.com. Anyone age 14 or above on Marathon
day, Sunday, Oct. 26, is eligible to enter the MCM Lottery.
Once the Lottery closes, marathoners will be notified by email whether they
have been selected for the 39th MCM. All participants will receive
confirmation starting Wednesday, March 19. During the lottery registration
process, runners can purchase tickets to the pre-marathon pasta dinner, the
online training service, for Brooks training apparel or a discounted event
photo package. No charges will occur until a runner is officially
registered for the MCM. Individuals not gaining access to the event will
not accrue any charges. The MCM registration fee is $110.
The MCM Lottery opened on Feb. 19, providing runners 21 days to fulfill
their intentions to participate in the 39th MCM. Runners from every state
and 46 countries have signed up for the Lottery.
"The Lottery process has provided greater access to registration over a
longer period of time for anyone who hopes to participate in 'The People's
Marathon,'" says MCM Director Rick Nealis.
The Lottery is a new format for the MCM, which has been conducting
registration on a first come, first serve basis, resulting in two-hour
record sell outs of entries during the past two years.
Runners not selected through the Lottery will be able to register with any
one of 86 MCM Charity Partners, which will begin registering participants
on April 2. In addition, the MCM will conduct a Transfer Program in June
for registered MCM runners no longer able to participate in this year's
event.
The 26.2 mile marathon will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26 in Arlington, VA and
throughout the nation's capital.
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is the third largest marathon in the United
States and eighth largest in the world and voted the "Best Marathon for
Charities" and the "Best Marathon in the Mid Atlantic." The MCM honors the
dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism of its participants. "The People's
Marathon" is the largest marathon not to offer prize money. The 39th MCM,
sponsored by Arlington, Brooks and GE, will be held on October 26, 2014 in
Arlington, VA. No federal or Marine Corps endorsement is implied.
