Marine Corps Marathon Launches 2014 Charity Partner Registration
Organizations Offer Special Runner Programs to Glean Support for 39th MCM
QUANTICO, VA (April 1, 2014) - Runners have the opportunity to garner
support and increase awareness for the 86 charitable organizations
partnered with the 39th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). Registration for the
now sold-out Marathon is available through the organizations featured in
the 2014 MCM Charity Program. All MCM Charity Partners have entries
available for the Marathon (26.2 mile), while some organizations also have
entries for the MCM10K (6.2 mile), which will be held in conjunction with
the 39th MCM on Sunday, Oct. 26.
Thousands of runners will register for "The People's Marathon" through the
MCM Charity Program. Participants can locate a MCM Charity Partner and
obtain contact information through the MCM website. Registration will be
coordinated directly by the Charity Partners. Each charity maintains its
own support program for the 39th MCM with all funds raised going directly
to the organization.
"By registering with a MCM Charity, these runners not only commit to train
for and complete the Marathon, they also aspire to make a difference," says
MCM Director Rick Nealis. "Like MCM runners, the Charity Partners have
specific goals in mind whether that includes assisting military members and
their families, bringing comfort to those afflicted, championing human
rights or funding support for medical research or community-based programs,
these organizations support the MCM mission to generate community
goodwill."
Funds raised by MCM charity runners are substantial too. In 2013, MCM
runners raised just over $5 million for charitable organizations, resulting
in an increase of $1.5 million in charity funds over the previous year's
MCM.
The 39th Marine Corps Marathon will be hosted in Arlington, VA and the
nation's capital. More information is available at www.marinemarathon.com.
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is the third largest marathon in the United
States and eighth largest in the world and voted the "Best Marathon for
Charities" and the "Best Marathon in the Mid Atlantic." The MCM honors the
dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism of its participants. "The People's
Marathon" is the largest marathon not to offer prize money. The 39th MCM,
sponsored by Arlington, Brooks and GE, will be held on October 26, 2014 in
Arlington, VA. No federal or Marine Corps endorsement is implied.
