FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Marine Corps Marathon Transfer Program to Open June 11
Runners Registered for the 39th MCM
Can Transfer Entry to Another Through Official Program
QUANTICO, VA (June 10, 2014) - Exclusive to the Marine Corps Marathon, the
MCM Transfer Program opens tomorrow, Wednesday, June 11 providing those
registered, though unable to run, the ability to officially transfer their
entry to a Marathon hopeful. The MCM Transfer Program is available at
www.marinemarathon.com.
"The MCM's goal is to enable as many runners as possible to train for and
complete the 26.2 mile marathon distance," says MCM Director Rick Nealis.
"Many things can arise such as injuries, deployments, business trips or
family obligations that can prevent runners from training and
participating. The MCM Transfer Program provides a limited opportunity for
participants to give their spot to another."
To initiate an official transfer, those currently registered must complete
the MCM's online transfer request form. Once the request is processed, the
registered runner will receive an email including a specific code, password
and hyperlink to the online transfer registration form. The registered
runner will then forward this information to the individual now seeking to
register for the 39th MCM.
All transfer requests must be completed by Aug. 31. The new runner will
complete the transfer form and pay a $40 fee to finalize the transaction.
All new runners must complete their 39th MCM registration no later than
Sept. 23.
When transferring an entry, MCM runners will not receive a refund for the
initial registration fee. All monetary transactions will be handled between
the two transferring runners. In addition, MCM entries may not be
transferred more than once. Runners can locate each other through the MCM
Facebook page.
MCM to MCM10K Transfer
Also starting on June 11, those registered for the 39th MCM can choose to
transfer their participation to the MCM10K, the 6.2 mile event annually
hosted in conjunction with the MCM. To transfer from the Marathon to the
MCM10K, registered marathon runners must complete the MCM10K Transfer form.
Although there are no additional fees to transfer from the MCM to the
MCM10K, there also are no refunds for those who initially registered for
the full marathon.
The MCM10K is open for online registration at a cost of $50 for all ages
eight and above at www.marinemarathon.com.
The 39th MCM and MCM10K will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26 in Arlington, VA
and throughout the nation's capital.
