02/16/14 - Today, Barcelona has capitalised the sporting news of the day.
Almost 15.000 runners and a huge cheering crowd had coloured the streets of
Barcelona in the 24th edition of the eDreams Mitja Marató de Barcelona.

A five star elite, headed by the Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge and his national
colleague Florence Kiplagat, had largely accomplished their respective
goals. A perfect shape, extra motivation and 13 degrees Celsius were the
perfect assets for Kiplagat to set an historic mark and putted Barcelona in
the edge of the world athletic news.

The Kenyan lead the race from the start to the end. She took the lead at
the start and crossed the line in P1. She was running in the perfect time
around km. 10 (31.08), and it improved her expectations when she set 46:35
in km. 15. Kiplagat managed really well all over the race until she set the
new world record in 1:05:12. She was helped by the peacemakers Marc Roig
and Stanley Siroro.

Kiplagat set the best ever time in the eDreams Mitja Marató de Barcelona
as well, improving the time that Atsede Baysa set in 2013, (1:07:34),
besides achieving the New World Record. The former record has been beaten
by 38 seconds. The Kenyan has also improved her best personal record,
achieved in Rome in 2012 (01.06.38). The ladies podium was completed by
Nicola Duncan and Paula Todoran .

In men's, the winner of the race, Eliud Kipchoge, has set a time of
1:00:52 .

The Kenyan frontrunners set the pace from the beginning of the race. A
group of three runners, including Kipchoge, Peter Emase and Laban Mutai
were placed at front. The mark of Km 5, was reached in 14.32 .

The three runners headed to Km. 10 in a time of 28.50 . After that point,
Kipchoge left his national mates behind and finally crossed the finishing
line in 1:00:52. Kipchoge was unable to beat his personal record in
Barcelona, 1.00.04, which remains still the record of the race. The
podium was completed by Laban Mutai (second, 1:01:19) and Peter Emase
(third, 1:02:47).

Iván Espílez and Laia Andreu were the first Spanish athletes to cross the
line. Espílez, who debuts in the Barcelona Half Marathon, set a time of
1:06:30 while Laia Andreu finished her run in 1:20:19.

Juan Porcar, CEO at RPM Racing: "He putted Barcelona in the centre of the

and Stanley Siroro, they did a great job!. I felt so well from the
beginning and the weather was perfect, so I had the feeling that this could
be a special day!."
