New York Road Runners and Front Runners New York to Make a
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Title Attempt for Largest Pride Charity Run
More than 6,000 runners to participate in the 2019 Front Runners
New York LGBT Pride Run® 5M race in support of The Center
New York, May 8, 2019 - New York Road Runners (NYRR) and Front Runners New
York (FRNY) today announced their plans to make a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS
title attempt for the largest pride charity run. The record title attempt
will take place at the 38th annual Front Runners New York LGBT Pride Run, a
five-mile race set for Saturday, June 29, 2019.
The current minimum to beat for the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS TITLE for the
largest pride charity run is 6,000 finishers. To track the status of the
record title attempt, NYRR will provide race-day access to the official
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator, as well as access to all necessary
finisher data.
This GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title attempt at this year's run is in
celebration of WorldPride's arrival to New York City to mark the 50th
anniversary of the Stonewall uprising and a half-century of LGBTQIA+
liberation. WorldPride, an annual international celebration, welcomes
members of the LGBT community from across the globe.
"The FRNY LGBT Pride Run has been one of the first official events of Pride
Weekend for several years, welcoming people from all walks of life to
Central Park with a common goal in mind," said Erick Tatro, President,
FRNY. "In the light of Stonewall 50 this year, we look forward to making
our signature event even more special for the community as the lens
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS brings magnifies our purpose, spreading awareness
about the continued movement forward for LGBTQIA+ equality."
"New York Road Runners is thrilled to be welcoming members of the
international LGBTQIA+ running community to New York this June for the 38th
Front Runners New York LGBT Pride Run during NYC Pride weekend," said
Michael Capiraso, president and CEO of NYRR. "Our mission is to help and
inspire people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds through running.
This year, we're also excited to introduce the first-ever NYRR Virtual
Pride Run 5K for those not traveling to New York for WorldPride."
Each year, FRNY selects an LGBT-related nonprofit organization to receive a
donation. This year's beneficiary is The Center (The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual
& Transgender Community Center). Located in the West Village, The Center
empowers people to lead healthy, successful lives, celebrates diversity,
and advocates for justice and opportunity.
"Guinness World Records is looking forward to verifying the incredible
efforts of Front Runners New York and New York Road Runners, which
celebrate diversity, inclusiveness, and the inspiring way people can come
together to accomplish something amazing," said Hannah Ortman, Head of
Records Management Team - North America at Guinness World Records.
A number of opportunities are available for individuals, groups, and
organizations interested in taking part in the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS®
attempt. Race registration for the 2019 Front Runners New York LGBT Pride
