PHILADELPHIA (October 30, 2014) - It takes more than just the runners to
put on a race. The GORE-TEX® Philadelphia Marathon Weekend has at least
2,500 volunteers each year to assist with the races.
While many volunteers have already signed up, there are still opportunities
to be a part of the excitement.
The GORE-TEX® Philadelphia Marathon ranks in the top ten in the nation,
with more than 30,000 runners and 60,000 spectators, volunteers are a big
part of creating the GORE-TEX® Philadelphia Marathon Race Weekend
experience. GORE-TEX® Philadelphia Marathon Race Weekend includes a
series of fun, athletic and entertaining activities-- two-day Health &
Fitness Expo on Friday, November 21 and Saturday, November 22; the Rothman
Institute 8K on Saturday, November 22, and the GORE-TEX® Philadelphia
Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday, November 23.
Volunteering provides an opportunity to assist the community, meet other
people and enjoy a day of race-watching in many historic Philadelphia
neighborhoods. Groups, such as friends, family, co-workers, schools,
churches and community organizations, are encouraged to sign up together.
Volunteers will also have a front row seat to the races.
Volunteer race day opportunities include roles, such as: course marshal,
course monitor, and support volunteers at the start and finish line.
Volunteers are also needed at the hydration stations to keep runners from
getting dehydrated.
Those interested in volunteering can register online at the Volunteer
Section on PhiladelphiaMarathon.com --

volunteers will receive an official 2014 GORE-TEX® Philadelphia
