Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc. Sponsors Team USA Minnesota
Sponsorship is Part of The American Development Program Initiative
(Pittsburgh, PA) - Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc. (P3R), the
organizers of the DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon and other
world-class running events, will continue its commitment to supporting
American athletes by sponsoring Team USA Minnesota.
The support of the post-collegiate distance training center is the newest
initiative of P3R's American Development Program. Launched in 2014, the
Program is designed to increase exposure and racing opportunities for
emerging American professional runners. The sponsorship will assist Team
USA Minnesota in covering the costs of coaching, stipends and travel
expenses for team members.
"The support that elite-level training teams offer is critical for
athletes who have the potential to compete but have not yet been able to
secure sponsorships," said P3R CEO Patrice Matamoros. "We're pleased to
sponsor Team USA Minnesota, a group that develops runners who specialize in
the 800 meters to the marathon. We share a common mission to elevate
talented distance runners to a world-class level and to build excitement
for the sport by engaging athletes with the community."
Since Team USA Minnesota's inception in 2001, the group has produced one
Olympian, 22 national champions and more than 60 world championship team
members. Athletes in these groups include several past P3R event
competitors, including GNC Live Well Liberty Mile champions Gabriele
Grunewald and Heather Kampf, as well as EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler
participants Jon Grey and Jon Peterson.
"We are honored and privileged to be sponsored by the Pittsburgh Three
Rivers Marathon and will do our best to represent it well," said Patricia
Goodwin, president and founder of Team USA Minnesota. "The support we
receive from P3R will make a significant difference for our training group
as we work to perform at the very highest level both nationally and
internationally. Our athletes thoroughly enjoy competing in Pittsburgh and
we are proud to be a recipient of P3R's American Development Program."
Since the American Development Program launched earlier this year, P3R has
offered more than $65,000 in American-only prize money at its races. The
next event is the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler, scheduled for Sunday, November
9. The event will offer $15,500 in prize money, including $5,000 in
American prize purse bonuses.
