FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The RunCzech Running League is completely gold
The Promised Land for running. The Czech Republic can be proud of such an
epithet. All seven races of the RunCzech Running League are awarded by the
IAAF Gold Road Race Labels. This is the highest award for the long distance
races, and the three Prague races and four regional ones have obtained it.
During the official press conference held on Wednesday, 2 March, in Old
Town Hall in Prague the symbolic gold labels were passed on by Carlo
Capalbo, the President of the RunCzech Organizing Committee, to the
President of the Czech Athletic Federation Libor Varhaník and the councilor
of the city of Prague Jan Wolf.
In 2016, there 35 cities with the IAAF Gold Road Race Label, and a total of
43 labels are awarded by IAAF this year. Seven labels are awarded to the
seven races of the RunCzech Running League races. "The gold labels prove
that our races belong to the most prestigious running events in the world.
Recognition from the International Association of Athletic Federations is a
huge success and a commitment as well", says the President of the
Organizing Committee Carlo Capalbo.
Libor Varhaník, the President of the Czech Athletic Federation, adds: "The
award for the RunCzech Running League events is great news for us, and it
proves that the running races in the Czech Republic are organized on the
highest world class standards. The Gold Labels bring the races to the elite
club of the world's running events marked with this certification, and this
helps us to attract thousands of excited runners from the whole country and
from all over the world".
To receive IAAF Gold Road Race Label it is necessary to comply with strict
criteria and the RunCzech Running League races complies with them. The Gold
Labels can help also not only during the running itself. And this is
exactly how it has happened in Prague. "The RunCzech running series has
become a traditional event in the sport offering of not only Prague, but
also of other cities of the Czech Republic. The seven Gold Labels awarded
to which these series gives evidence about its quality and has
significantly contributed to the title of the European capital of sport,
which in 2016 is the city of Prague", points out Jan Wolf, the councillor
for culture, heritage preservation, exhibition, tourism, sport, and
leisure.
This year the RunCzech Running League races will be broadcast live by ?eská
televize. "Ceská televize traditionally belongs to the partners of the
Czech athletics and RunCzech events. Starting from its premiere in 1995,
the Prague Marathon and then also the half marathon and the Grand Prix in
autumn were broadcast live. In the meantime three traditional Prague races
awarded by the IAAF Gold Road Race Label are accompanied by the running
events in other cities of the Czech Republic - last year the CT has offered
live broadcast and records also from Karlovy Vary, Olomouc, Ceské
Bud?jovice and Ústí nad Labem. We are counting with the broadcasting on CT
Sport of the whole RunCzech Running League also this year", mentions Jirí
Ponikelský, the executive director of CT Sport; he adds that the news
coverage and races infromation will be again presented also in the running
magazine bringing inspiraton, advices from coachs and medicians, reciprocal
exchange of experiences, reportages, tips, and advertisement.
The seven races is not the only thing which RunCzech organizes in Prague.
This year RunCzech adds a completely new race - O2 Prague Relay 4x5, which
will be held in the Stromovka part on Tuesday, 19 April. The Junior
Marathon will run up students for the twentieth time, and thanks to the
Running Mall and the five kilometer races of the Mattoni FreeRun anyone can
actively move anytime. "RunCzech is not only a running league; during the
year we are organizing many other projects. The Junior Marathon, money
fundraised for a charity or the Mattoni Free Run demonstrate that we mean
it", says the race coordinator of RunCzech Tomáš Mirovský.
