2007 A RECORD FUNDRAISING YEAR AT THE TORONTO MARATHON:
Toronto, ON - December 18, 2007 - The Toronto Marathon is proud to announce
that over $1.3 million was raised for its affiliated charities in 2007.
The 13th annual event took place on Sunday October 14, 2007, and over
10,000 people from 50+ countries participated in the Marathon, Half
Marathon, 5K and Relay. The primary beneficiary for the event was the
Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation. Over 1,200 participants took part
in the "5K Walk/Run for Cancer" at the 2007 Toronto Marathon, raising over
$900,000 for cancer research.
The newest charitable partner of the Toronto Marathon, Team Diabetes
Canada, reported over $80,000 was raised by approximately 100 participants
in their first year of affiliation with the event.
Participants also raised funds and awareness for Hemophilia, Multiple
Sclerosis, the Canadian Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA Canada), ORBIS
Canada, Toronto Foundation for Student Success, Sanfilippo Children's
Research Foundation and various other organizations chosen by the
participants.
The Toronto Marathon is the largest and oldest marathon in Toronto,
generating $15 million to the local economy each year. Over 10,000
participants from 55+ countries are expected to participate in the
Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K or Relay on October 19, 2008. Since 1995, the
Toronto Marathon has generated over $6.5 million for its various charitable
partners including the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Hemophilia,
Multiple Sclerosis, Canadian Diabetes, Toronto Foundation for Student
Success, ICA Canada, ORBIS Canada and the Sanfilippo Children's Research
Foundation.

day is Sunday October 19, 2008.
