MEDTRONIC TWIN CITIES MARATHON EXCEEDS SPONSORSHIP GOALS
25th Anniversary Race Generates Exceptional Community Support
(Minneapolis, MN) - With two months remaining until race weekend, September
29-October 1, 2006, Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon (MTCM) announced today
that it has exceeded it's sponsorship goals for the 25th Anniversary
running of the Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America™.
In addition to our first-ever title sponsorship with Medtronic, MTCM
welcomes Capella University, an accredited online university, and ING, one
of the world's largest financial services companies, as Major Level
sponsors for a third year. Major Media sponsors of the marathon include
Clear Channel, KARE 11 and the Pioneer Press.
Target Corporation recently signed on as a Gold Level sponsor and will
introduce the Target Tunnel at Mile 25 in honor of the event's silver
anniversary year. "The Target Tunnel is an innovative and welcoming
structure that reveals the final push to the 26th mile. Runners and
spectators can enjoy the spirit of the race with the tunnel's motivating
music and energetic, graphic presence," said Virginia Achman Brophy, Twin
Cities Marathon Executive Director.
Chippewa Springs has also joined the 2006 roster of Gold Level sponsors and
will provide water to runners along the 26.2 mile course. Other Gold Level
sponsors include Brooks, a leading manufacturer of running shoes and
apparel, Outback Steakhouse and Seagate Technology.
The support provided by these and other sponsors help create the complete
"MTCM Experience," which promises to be even more exciting during the 25th
Anniversary year, according to Achman. "The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon
weekend is possible thanks to the tremendous community and corporate
support we, and the runners, receive all year long. Race weekend is the
celebration of a year-long effort to present the best event in our 25-year
history." said Achman.
The 2006 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon weekend will take place Sept. 29 -
Oct. 1, 2006. The three-day weekend celebration of fitness includes a 5K
run/walk, children's fun runs, pasta dinner, health and fitness expo and
Medtronic TC 10 Mile, in addition to the marathon. The race continues its
16th consecutive year as the designated USATF National Masters Championship
for both men and women and will also host the USATF men's and women's open
Marathon Championships. Other Major sponsors include Capella University
and ING. Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. is a non-profit organization that
directs race weekend as a community service for the Minneapolis/St. Paul
area. Visit www.mtcmarathon.org for more information.
