Minnesota Governor Proclaims April 22nd, "Finisher Shirt Friday"
Day Set Aside to Celebrate Running, Achievement, and Community
St. Paul, Minn. – April 19, 2016 – Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton has
proclaimed Friday, April 22 "Finisher Shirt Friday" in the state at the
request of Twin Cities In Motion (TCM), organizers of the Medtronic Twin
Cities Marathon and a year-round calendar of running events in Minneapolis
and St. Paul.
The proclamation, which will be posted on the Governor's Office website
later this week, notes Minnesota residents' recognized commitment to health
and fitness, the coming of spring which finds people showing renewed
passion for outdoor fitness activities, and the role event finisher shirts
play as badges of honor and symbols of personal achievement in the
community.
The Finisher Shirt Friday proclamation spotlights the Medtronic Twin Cities
Marathon as one of Minnesota's oldest events, as a highlight of the
Minnesota running season for 35 years, uniting participants and spectators
alike.
"We welcome the governor's acknowledgement of race finishers and all they
represent through this proclamation," Twin Cities In Motion executive
director Virginia Brophy Achman said. "Runners often see their
accomplishments largely as personal triumphs, but individual successes also
serve a community-building purpose which we are honored the governor has
again recognized and emphasized."

Wear their favorite finisher shirts on Friday to celebrate and inspire
Share photos via social media, tagging TCM on Facebook, Instagram, and
Twitter using the hashtag #FinisherShirtFriday
Share inspiring finisher stories using the hashtag #Myfinisherstory
New this year, Twin Cities In Motion will award a grand prize complimentary
entry to the 2016 Medtronic TC 10 Mile on October 9 to a Finisher Shirt
Friday participant who posts using the #FinisherShirtFriday hashtag. The
winner of the complimentary entry and winners of other Finisher Shirt
Friday drawings will be chosen at random.
