Features and Fun Abound at the 2019 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon
Free Photos, Event App, PR Bell & Beer Sales to Greet Race-Goers
St. Paul, Minn. - October 3, 2019 - Features and fun abound at the 38th
annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend, October 4 - October 6 in
Minneapolis and St. Paul. Participants, volunteers and spectators at the
event will find amenities to enhance their experience of the event.
Twin Cities In Motion App, Presented by Medtronic
The full-featured Twin Cities In Motion App, presented by Medtronic, is a
great first step for spectators looking track participants in the Medtronic
Twin Cities Marathon and Medtronic TC 10 Mile. Runners and fans can use the
app to find their way on Marathon Weekend, share experiences via social
media and enjoy complimentary participant photos by Racetography, presented
by Great Clips. The app is available by searching for "Twin Cities In
Motion" in an app store.
Free Trims from Great Clips at the Expo
Participants and their friends can enjoy the weekend with a fresh haircut
from Great Clips at the Health & Fitness Expo. The Great Clips booth will
offer a trim, with a suggested $1-10 donation to Great Clips' charity
partner Girls on the Run, and girls' fitness and empowerment nonprofit.
Look for the Dancing Pickle
PNC Bank will provide pickle juice at their Mile 13 marathon fluid station.
Pickle juice provides sodium which can help replenish lost fluids and
prevent dehydration and cramping. The pickle juice will be a 2 oz. 50/50
mix with water and available before Gatorade and water tables at the
station. And yes, the station will feature a dancing pickle.
Personal Record Bell
Runners can ring out their triumphs when they set a personal record --
including finishing their longest race or their first marathon - with the
PR Bell presented by Up4 Probiotics. The PR Bell will be located on the
Aurora Promenade in front of the State Capitol building.
Beer Sales at the Sunday Finish Line
A free Summit beer for marathon and 10 mile runners is a Medtronic Twin
Cities Marathon tradition, but new this year, spectators can celebrate in
the beer tent with Summit beer for sale for $5. Proceeds will support the
Friend of Twin Cities In Motion Community Fund.
Fun and Fitness for Kids at the Finish Line
Ninja Anywhere's unique fitness rig and inflatables will offer kids at the
State Capitol grounds finish area with their own physical challenge. Ninja
Anywhere kid-friendly challenges include a rock climbing wall, floating
monkey bar, ninja rings, and an inflatable obstacle course.
Driscoll's Berries
The unmistakable Driscoll's Berries truck will be at the finish line on
Saturday offering free samples including fresh berry bowls, soft serve ice
cream with berries, raspberry honey ginger smoothies, blueberry mint
lemonade, berry skewers with pound cake and chocolate and raspberry swirl
popsicles.
Keeping the Event Sustainable and Green
Thanks to its sustainability partner TVG, the marathon has reduced its
waste by 50% over the last 10years, the equivalent of 15 tons of kept out
of local landfills. This year, for example, the event will use more 440,000
certified organic cups at its fluid stations and finish line, 95% of which
are organically recycled.
Traditions Continue As Well
Tradition will still be honored at the storied event first run in 1982.
Marathoners will still power past the ALARC Wall at mile 20, feel a surge
of energy at the Brooks cheer zone at mile 22, race through the Medtronic
tunnel at mile 25 and be welcomed at the finish line with
secret-until-race-day finisher medals and finisher shirts plus a free beer
from Summit Brewing Company.
Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend kicks off at 11:00 a.m. on Friday,
October 4, with the opening of the Health & Fitness Expo at Saint Paul
RiverCentre. The expo, which runs through Saturday evening at 7 p.m.,
features more than 70 exhibitors, a full schedule of free presentations,
and packet pick up for the weekend's races.
30,000 people are expected to participate in running events held Saturday,
October 5, and Sunday, October 6. Saturday events at the State Capitol
grounds in St. Paul include the TC 10K, the TC 5K, presented by Fredrikson
& Byron, P. A., and the Medtronic TC Family Events.
The 21st annual Medtronic TC 10 Mile, known as the Shortcut to the
CapitolĀ®, starts in downtown Minneapolis and kicks off the Sunday races at
approximately 6:54 a.m. The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon follows at 7:55
a.m. This marks the signature race's 38th year serving as the Twin Cities'
