Press Release - Victoria Marathon - 4/6/22

             Royal Victoria Marathon announces 2022 Charities

(Victoria, BC - April 6, 2022) The 2022 Royal Victoria Marathon (RVM) has 
announced the charities that will be part of this year's CHEK Charity 
Pledge Program. The 41st running of the Victoria Marathon will be held on 
Sunday, October 9. In addition, there is a Half Marathon and 8K Road Race. 
Details about the Kids Run will be announced at a future date. There will 
also be a virtual component for those not wishing to participate in-person.

Eleven charities will be participating in the CHEK Charity Pledge Program: 
Another Brick in Nepal; Autism Speaks Canada; BC Cancer Foundation; Bridges 
for Women Society; Broadmead Care Foundation; Habitat for Humanity 
Victoria; KidSport Greater Victoria; Lifetime Networks, NEED2 Suicide 
Prevention, Education and Support, the Starfish Environmental Society, and 
the Victoria Hospitals Foundation. The charities raise awareness and funds 
by encouraging individuals to run or walk for their individual causes, and 
by collecting pledges.

"We are excited about the opportunity to work with our charity partners to 
not only help them raise money but also awareness for their causes," says 
Cathy Noel, GM & Race Director, RVM. "By partnering with charities each 
year, we often attract and inspire new participants to be involved which 
helps to increase the number of participants, and hopefully impacts more 
and more people to set goals and work towards a healthier lifestyle."

"This is the 18th year for the charity program with over $2 million 
raised," adds Mandy Parker, Chair, CHEK Charity Pledge Program. "Our goal 
this year is to reach $2.5 million. Whether you are on a charity team or 
not, everyone can make a difference by donating as we all know every dollar 
counts towards these worthwhile causes."
