Tim Hadzima Appointed to General Manager of the
Abbott World Marathon Majors
Tim Hadzima has been named General Manager of the Abbott World Marathon
Majors (AWMM), effective Dec. 10, it was announced today by the organizers
of the six marathons in the renowned race series: Tokyo, Boston, Virgin
Money London, BMW BERLIN, Bank of America Chicago and TCS New York City
Marathon.
"Tim brings more than a decade of experience to this position and we are
excited to welcome him to the Abbott World Marathon Majors team," said
Carey Pinkowski, Executive Race Director of the Bank of America Chicago
Marathon. "His sponsorship experience and knowledge of each race in the
series will play a critical role as the series grows and continues to be a
global leader in elite and mass participation marathons."
In his new role, Hadzima will be responsible for managing the business and
marketing of the Abbott World Marathon Majors brand, while supporting the
goals of the race series within the sport and elevating the profile of the
athletes who compete in the series' six races. Hadzima will work jointly
with the event organizers of the AWMM races to continue promoting the sport
and driving it forward at both the elite and mass participatory levels.
The appointment of Hadzima follows the announcement of the partnership
between WMM and Abbott, with Abbott becoming the race series' first-ever
title sponsor in 2015.
Hadzima comes to the Abbott World Marathon Majors after spending 13 years
in marketing at Bank of America, most recently as a Senior Vice President
of Global Sponsorship Marketing. In this position, he helped lead, develop,
manage and market the Chicago Marathon. In addition to his work with the
Marathon, he managed multiple partnerships across several professional and
collegiate sports leagues and teams.
About Abbott World Marathon Majors (AWMM)
With a title sponsorship announced in October 2014 at the Bank of America
Chicago Marathon, Abbott World Marathon Majors is the new name of the race
series World Marathon Majors, that was established in 2006 and is now
comprised of the Tokyo, Boston, Virgin Money London, BMW BERLIN, Bank of
America Chicago, and TCS New York City Marathons. In the years in which
they are run, the series also includes the IAAF World Championships and
Olympic marathons. At the conclusion of each two-year cycle, the series
offers a $1 million prize purse to be divided equally between the top male
and female marathoners in the world. The inaugural 2006-2007 Series was
launched at the 110th Boston Marathon on April 17, 2006, and concluded at
the New York City Marathon on Nov. 4, 2007. The 2013-2014 series, the WMM's
eighth two-year series, began with the Tokyo Marathon on Feb. 24, 2013, and
concluded at the TCS New York City Marathon on Nov. 2, 2014. The first
Abbott World Marathon Majors Series will begin in Tokyo on February 22nd
2015.
