Country Music Marathon & ½ Marathon Recruiting
High School Cheer Teams for Race Day
Spirit on the Course Champion Will Receive $1,000 Prize
NASHVILLE, Tenn., (March 29, 2006) — Once again, the popular
Spirit on the Course competition returns to the seventh annual
Country Music Marathon & ½ Marathon. Local high school cheer teams can
participate in one of Music City’s top community programs on Saturday,
April 29, 2006 as they cheer, chant and perform along the 26.2-mile and
13.1-mile courses.
The cheerleaders will be judged on enthusiasm, spirit, creativity and the
ability to incorporate running and musical themes into the race. The 25
cheer squads are positioned along the racecourse that begins at Centennial
Park, taking marathoners on a scenic tour of Nashville, and finishing at
The Coliseum. In addition, more than 50 bands will be located each mile
creating a diverse array of entertainment for a projected 23,000 runners.
The squads are vying for more than $2,000 in prize money. First place prize
is $1,000, second takes home $750, while third place receives $500. Each
of the top three schools will also receive commemorative guitar plaques
recognizing their participation in the event. Every cheer squad
participating in the Spirit on the Course competition will receive $175.
Teams interested in participating in the next Spirit on the Course
competition should contact Kathy Greene at the Country Music Marathon & ½
Marathon office at 615/742-1660.
