New Denver Marathon(TM) is off and Running;
Marathon Signs Three Sponsors and Launches Race Web Site
DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 2005--The new Denver Marathon(TM) is
pleased to announce that the Adam's Mark Hotel, KCNC-TV CBS4, and the Metro
Denver Sports Commission will support the Fall 2006 Denver Marathon as
sponsors for the highly anticipated, first annual race in the Denver
community. Denver now joins the ranks of other major U.S. cities as a
world-class marathon destination.
In addition to its sponsorship, the Adam's Mark Hotel will serve as the
Official Race Headquarters Hotel for the inaugural Denver Marathon
scheduled for October 15, 2006. The hotel will serve as "Athletes' Village"
catering to all of the runners' needs throughout Marathon weekend,
including special discounted rooms and the Denver Marathon Health and
Fitness EXPO which will take place on the Friday and Saturday preceding the
event.
"Through our collaborative efforts with CBS4, the Sports Commission, and
the Adam's Mark Hotel, we are working to create a race that will attract
runners of all abilities, from world-class athletes to weekend warriors ...
a true Denver tradition in the making," said Dave McGillivray, Race
Director of the Denver Marathon and Race Director of the BAA Boston
Marathon for which he has worked tirelessly for the past 18 years.
McGillivray is known throughout the event management world for his
operational expertise, attention to detail and creativity as a director of
sporting events across the country.
The Adam's Mark Hotel sponsorship adds strength to a growing event and will
serve as a hub for the Marathon weekend. The race has also signed on
KCNC-TV CBS4 as its official broadcast partner and secured the support of
the Metro Denver Sports Commission. CBS4 will work with the race to produce
pre-event profiles and features, race-day coverage and more. The Sports
Commission, whose mission is to attract and facilitate world-class sporting
events in the Denver area, will work with the Denver Marathon to create
economic and social opportunities for Denver businesses, athletes and
spectators.
"We all know how passionate Denver is about world-class sporting events. As
support for the new Denver Marathon continues to grow, the event is on
track to become another annual great sports tradition in the Front Range,"
said Jon Schmieder, Executive Director of the Metro Denver Sports
Commission.
The Denver Marathon also launched a new Web Site, www.denvermarathon.com,
designed for runners to register and receive up-to-date information on the
Denver Marathon, including schedules for the weekend and race day, travel
arrangements, training tips and schedules and volunteer opportunities.
The Denver Marathon will offer runners the opportunity to participate in a
marathon, half-marathon, or a four-person marathon relay. The Denver
Marathon course will start and finish in downtown and race through Denver's
most-scenic parks creating a community-wide festival atmosphere.
