Registration for the 30th Anniversary of
Grandma's Marathon is Now Open!
Duluth, Minn.: Celebrate the 30th anniversary of Grandma's Marathon by
running the 26.2-mile event on Saturday, June 17, 2006! Registration is now
open for the race. Entry forms are being mailed today, Wednesday, January
18, to individuals who requested them and to those who registered for
Grandma's Marathon in 2004 and/or 2005.
Entry forms are also available by calling (218) 727-0947, or by downloading
and printing one off the web site www.grandmasmarathon.com on January 23 or
thereafter.
Grandma's Marathon has reached the capacity field limit for 11 straight
years. The 2006 field is limited to 9,500 people. "Because we are
celebrating our 30th anniversary, we anticipate that the marathon will
sell-out once again this year," says Scott Keenan, executive director of
Grandma's Marathon. "We really encourage people to complete their entry
form and mail it into us as soon as possible. This is the best way to
secure a spot in the race."
For those who prefer to run shorter distances, Grandma's Marathon weekend
also features the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and the William A. Irvin
5K. Registration for these races will begin in February and March,
respectively. To obtain entry forms for either of these races, send a note
of request and a self-addressed, stamped, #10 business sized envelope to:
Grandma's Marathon, PO Box 16234, Duluth, Minn. 55816.
The 30th anniversary Grandma's Marathon weekend celebration begins on
Thursday, June 15 with the SMDC Health and Fitness Expo and continues on
Friday, June 16 with the Michelina's All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner,
Whipper Snapper Races for Kids, guest speaking presentations, live musical
entertainment and the William A. Irvin 5K (6:00 p.m.).
The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and Grandma's Marathon are on Saturday,
June 17, 2006 beginning at
6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., respectively. In all, over 16,000 runners and
