Build Up Program and Official Marathon Training Begin late August

Little Rock, AR (August 10, 2005) - Arkansans can begin registering for the
2006 Little Rock Marathon Training Program, a free four-month physical
conditioning program created to prepare both beginners and experienced
athletes to participate in the foot race next March. Funds raised from the
Little Rock Marathon will benefit the programs and services offered by
Little Rock Parks and Recreation.

The 2006 Little Rock Marathon is Sunday, March 5, 2006.

Informational meetings for the 2006 program will be held at 6:30 pm in the
Adult Leisure Center on August 25 and September 20. The Adult Leisure
Center is located at 6401 W. 12th Street in Little Rock.

The Little Rock Marathon is presented by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and
is a multi race event. In addition to the marathon, there is a half
marathon (13.1 miles), relay marathon (4 individuals covering the 26.2 mile
course), Little Rockers Kids Marathon (26.2 miles over a 4 to 5 month
period), and a family 5K. Participants can run or walk any of the events.
The marathon events have an eight-hour time limit.

"Our training program is really a year round program," said Tom Singleton,
Head Running Coach of the Little Rock Marathon Training Program. "After
the marathon the first year, the group never stopped training."

"The training schedules are very do-able and are for every level of
fitness," Singleton said. "There were more than 350 individuals in last
year's training program. Our program caters to first time marathoners and
first time runners/walkers (meaning they have never run a step)."

"To get people thinking about the marathon, we offer a pre-training
program," said Hobbit Singleton, Head Walking Coach of the Little Rock
Marathon Training Program. "The Build Up Program will prepare a person to
run or walk a 10K (6.2 miles). The Build Up begins in late August and will
last six weeks. The official schedule for the marathon begins October 3 and
finishes on marathon day."

"Finishing a marathon requires remarkable determination," said Hobbit.
"Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned athlete, there is a place for you
in the Little Rock Marathon training program. "
