Deadline Approaching for Kids Marathon Art Contest
(LITTLE ROCK- January 27, 2006)-The deadline is quickly approaching for an
art contest geared towards the Little Rockers Kid Marathon. The theme of
the second annual art contest is running and or training for the Little
Rockers Kids Marathon. Interested artists do not have to be a participant
in the Kids Marathon to compete in the contest, just artists ages 7-12 who
might want to illustrate what they think crossing the finish line of this
year's Kid's Marathon will be like.
"Our committee discussed options that we thought would make the training
program fun for the kids and one of our volunteers mentioned the idea of an
art contest." said Terri Conder-Johnson, Chair of the Little Rockers Kids
Marathon.
The winning art will appear on this year's official Little Rockers Kids
Marathon participant shirt and the artist will not leave empty handed,
receiving a $50 gift card as well. Top entries will also get a chance to
shine as they will be displayed on the Little Rockers web site, hung in the
Little Rock City Hall, and seen at the Marathon Expo. The winner's work
will also be used to help promote and advertise the Little Rockers
Marathon. As to details of the contest, artwork should be presented on a
standard sheet of typing paper and any medium can be used to express
creativity, whether it is colors, paint, or markers. All submission should
reach Little Rock Parks & Recreation's office in City Hall by February 1.
As to the run itself, the Little Rockers Kids Marathon is geared towards
children, ages 7-12, and encourages them to become physically fit by
following a running or walking program, created and presented by Arkansas
Children's Hospital. The goal at hand is for each child to complete this
25.2-mile training program before race weekend. Then on race day, children
who are registered and have reached their mileage goal will complete the
final mile on the official Marathon course in a one-mile fun run. Last
year, more than 1,200 children crossed the finish line. The Little Rockers
Kids Marathon is a program of and benefits Little Rock Parks & Recreation.
Further details and contest guidelines can be found on the Little Rock
Marathon website at www.littlerockmarathon.com or by contacting Terri
