MINNESOTA GOVERNOR, FIRST LADY TO RUN 2005 TWIN CITIES MARATHON
Participation in Marathon Draws Attention to Governor's
'Year of Fitness' Initiative
(Minneapolis, MN) - Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and First Lady Mary
Pawlenty will join thousands of participants running in the 2005 Twin
Cities Marathon this Sunday, October 2.
Governor Pawlenty finished the Twin Cities Marathon last year and both the
Governor and First Lady have completed the race in the past.
In January, Governor Pawlenty declared 2005 as "The Year of Fitness in
Minnesota" and joined with Be Active Minnesota, an independent, non-profit
organization aimed at promoting physical activity. Together they issued the
"Governor's Fitness Challenge," an activity promotion campaign designed to
help Minnesotans become engaged in and track their physical activity.
Participants can earn the Governor's Fitness Challenge Award. For more
information, visit www.beactiveminnesota.org.
"Minnesota is the healthiest state in America," said Governor Tim Pawlenty.
"But unfortunately our cold weather and hardworking lifestyles sometimes
keep us away from physical activity. We want 2005 to be a year when
Minnesotans make the personal choice to give fitness a higher priority in
their lives. Marathons and other fun family activities are a great way to
stay fit together."
The TCM Family Events on Saturday, Oct. 1 provide the perfect opportunity
for the whole family to be active. Races include:
· TCM 5K Run/Walk, presented by Seagate Technology, 8:30 a.m.

October 2, 2005. The three-day weekend celebration of fitness includes a
5K run/walk, children's fun runs, pasta dinner, health and fitness expo and
