Fitger's 5K 2014 Registration Opens
Field Limit Increased to 2,000 for the 25th Anniversary
(Duluth, Minn.) Registration is now open for the 2014 Fitger's 5K Run &
Walk, scheduled for Saturday, April 19.
The Fitger's 5K field is limited to the first 2,000 entrants – an increase
from the 2013 limit of 1,900 that was reached about a month prior to the
race.
To sign up for the 25th annual event, runners and walkers should log on to
www.GrandmasMarathon.com or www.YoungAthletesFoundation.com.
The Fitger's 5K registration process is conducted exclusively online.
The entry fee is $25 plus a processing fee with all net proceeds benefiting
the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF), a Grandma's Marathon program that
focuses on the promotion and development of youth athletics throughout
Carlton, Cook, Douglas, Lake and St. Louis Counties. Since its inception in
1990, the YAF has contributed more than $600,000 to area nonprofit youth
athletic organizations.
The race begins at 9 a.m. on East Superior Street in front of Fitger's and
travels through downtown Duluth and Canal Park before finishing back at
Fitger's.
Joe Moore (14 minutes, 53 seconds; course record) and Morgan Place (17:53)
were the top finishers at the 2013 event, which drew a record 1,926
registrants.
