16th ANNUAL ESSENTIA HEALTH FITNESS & HEALTH EXPO
(Duluth, Minn.) Grandma's Marathon weekend officially kicks off today with
the Essentia Health Fitness & Health Expo. The free, two-day event is open
today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The expo is held in the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) arena
and is open to the public. Exhibitors will be showcasing the latest
products and services available in the athletic industry.
Participants registered in the 35th annual Grandma's Marathon and the 21st
annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon may pick up their race packets at the
event, as well. Packet pick-up continues until 11 p.m. Friday.
Advantage Emblem, the official merchandiser of Grandma's Marathon, will be
on hand with official 2011 Grandma's Marathon T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats
and other merchandise.
Friday's Grandma's Marathon activities include the Essentia Health Fitness
& Health Expo, the Michelina's All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner, guest
speaker presentations, the Whipper Snapper Races for Kids and the 18th
annual William A. Irvin 5K.
Grandma's Marathon has 8,319 registrants signed up for the race's 35th
anniversary. The 2011 total is nearly 1,000 more than a year ago when 7,387
registered. The nation's 17th largest marathon is Saturday, June 18 at 7:30
a.m. The weekend's other two races, the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and
the William A. Irvin 5K, both have a record number of entrants. The half
marathon has 7,223 registered and the 5K has 1,770. In all, 17,312 are
signed up to participate in the three-race weekend.
