FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Grandma's Marathon Shoe Drive
Toyota initiative to contribute to ongoing sustainability efforts
(Duluth, Minn.) - Grandma's Marathon and presenting sponsor, Toyota, are
conducting a shoe drive starting June 7 that will run through marathon
weekend, and will conclude on June 24.
Local Toyota dealerships, Kari Toyota in Superior, WI, Kolar Toyota in
Duluth, MN, Iron Trail Toyota in Virginia, MN, and Ashland Toyota in
Ashland, WI, will kick off the shoe drive this Friday. Shoes can be dropped
off at the dealerships during their normal business hours through June 24.
All types of shoes can be collected.
During Grandma's Marathon weekend, the goal will be to fill the bed of a
Toyota Tundra truck in the Toyota display area located in Pioneer Hall at
the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on
Thursday, June 20, and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, June 21.
At the culmination of the weekend, Goodwill Industries of Duluth will
assist in collection of the shoes for either resale in their retail stores
or reuse on the secondary market. Majority of every dollar spent at
Goodwill goes back into supporting their mission of job creation for people
with disabilities or other barriers to employment.
"This is a perfect opportunity for race participants, spectators and
community members to clean out their closets. Help us "Fill the Tundra" and
recognize the value of giving back to the local community," says David
Solon, general manager of Kolar Toyota.
For more information on how to make a donation or to contribute gently
