APPLICATION REQUESTS FOR THE
2003 GRANDMA'S MARATHON WEEKEND RACES ARE NOW BEING TAKEN
Registration for Grandma's Marathon starts at the end January
Duluth, Minn.: The first step to getting registered for the 27th annual
Grandma's Marathon, the 13th annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and the
10th annual William A. Irvin 5K is to request an entry form. Those
interested in obtaining applications for these races should pay special
attention to the following guidelines:
For Grandma's Marathon
Applications for Grandma’s Marathon will be mailed during the week of
January 21st. To request one, send a letter and a self-addressed, stamped,
#10 business size envelope to: Grandma's Marathon, P.O. Box 16234, Duluth,
MN 55816 or call (218) 727-0947. During the week of January 27, the
application will be posted on the web site www.GrandmasMarathon.com for
individuals to download and print, and it will also be available to pick up
in person at various locations throughout the Twin Ports (call the Marathon
office for specific locations). Grandma's Marathon is limited to 9,000
participants, and entries are accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
For the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon
Applications for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon will be mailed the
fourth week of February. Those interested in running the Garry Bjorklund
Half Marathon should know that entry forms for this event will only be
mailed to individuals who have requested them in writing and have sent a
self-addressed, stamped, #10 business size envelope to the Grandma’s
Marathon office. The field limit for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon is
4,500 and participants are selected through a lottery system. As entries
are returned to the Grandma’s Marathon office, they will be placed in a
barrel and pulled randomly according to the following schedule:
1,000 entries pulled – 2 working days after the mass mailing
2,000 entries pulled – 5 working days after the mass mailing
1,500 entries pulled – 8 working days after the mass mailing
4,500 total entries accepted
For the William A. Irvin 5K
Applications will be available for the William A. Irvin 5K in March and can
be requested by submitting a self-addressed, stamped, #10 business size
envelope to the Grandma’s Marathon office. Entry forms for this race can
also be picked up in person at various locations throughout the Twin Ports
when they are available (call the Marathon office for specific locations).
The William A. Irvin 5K is limited to 1,200 participants and entries are
accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
The 2003 Grandma's Marathon weekend begins on Thursday, June 19 with the
SMDC Health and Fitness Expo and continues on Friday, June 20 with the
Michelina's All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner, Whipper Snapper Races for
Kids, guest speaking presentations and the William A. Irvin 5K (6:00 p.m.).
The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and Grandma's Marathon are on Saturday,
June 21, 2003 at 6:45 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. respectively. In addition, the
Staff and Board of Grandma's Marathon are pleased to host the 2003 USATF
Women’s National Half Marathon Championships on June 21. The race starts at
6:15 a.m. and will be run on the same course as the Garry Bjorklund Half
Marathon.
