FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Memorial Day Marathon and Berkshire Bank to Honor Boston Marathon Victims
In partnership with presenting sponsor Berkshire Bank, The Memorial Day
Marathon Races is planning to honor those affected by the Boston Marathon
bombings. Among the highlights are a $10,000 match by Berkshire Bank from
the sale of "Boston Strong" bracelets sold at this year's MDM Races, a 50%
off discount by Race Organizers for entry into the Memorial Day Marathon
for those that did not have the opportunity to finish due to the bombing
and a moment of silence during the actual marathon at 4:09:43 the time the
bombing occurred. Details are listed in the bullet points below.
"Berkshire Bank is honored to contribute to this effort to support the
victims of the horrible tragedy earlier this month," said Lori Gazzillo,
the Bank's assistant vice president of community relations. "The mission of
our Foundation is to support important non-profit organizations working for
the betterment of the communities that we serve, and we can think of no
better purpose at this time than to support The One Fund in this way. We
are pleased to once again serve as the major sponsor of the Memorial Day
Marathon and we are proud to stand with those involved - runners and
spectators - to honor those who were victimized by the terrorist events in
Boston."
The MDM Races finish banner will have "Boston Strong" displayed on it.
All MDM runners will receive an honorary silicone "Boston Strong" bracelet
in their race bags upon pickup. We will be selling additional bracelets
onsite throughout MDM Weekend at the Berkshire Bank tent for $5. Berkshire
Bank will match the amount of the total sale of the bracelets up to
$10,000, with all proceeds going to The One Fund Boston.
We will be offering 50% off of entry into the Memorial Day Marathon for all
runners of the Boston Marathon that did not get to finish the race due to
the bombing. Berkshire Bank will donate $10 to The One Fund Boston for each
Boston Marathon Runner that opts to run the MDM. If you know of people that
might be interested please have them email for
instructions on how to register.
The Memorial Day Marathon Races will observe the time on the race clock of
4:09:43 during the marathon as a moment of silence. At this time we will
cut all music and announcements and ask all spectators, runners, volunteers
and staff to take a moment to reflect and remember the families and those
affected by the Boston Marathon bombing. The race will continue on as we
listen to just the sound of the feet on the pavement, a sound all runners
should be able to enjoy without fear.
The Memorial Day Marathon Races will continue to support the military and
Team Red, White & Blue and feel it is even more important now to continue
to honor those that fight for our freedom on a daily basis.
The 4th Annual Memorial Day Marathon Races will take place on May 25-26,
2013, starting and finishing at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA. The races will
feature the Memorial Day Marathon, known as "The Toughest Race in the
East", The MDM ½ Marathon, The Berkshires 10K/5K, The MDM 15K Trail Race,
The Trail-Road Challenge and The Berkshire Bank Kids Run. A portion of the
proceeds will benefit Team Red White & Blue. Additional information can be
