Miami Marathon Announces New 2020 Race Date
First date change in event history will improve athlete experience
by pushing the date after the big game to Feb 7-9
MIAMI, Jan. 28, 2019 - The Miami Marathon, one of Life Time's most iconic
events, is excited to announce its 2020 Miami Marathon and Half Marathon
event weekend.
The 18th annual event will kick-off with its two-day expo on Friday, Feb.
7, followed by the Tropical 5K on Saturday, Feb. 8. The Miami Marathon and
Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, Feb. 9. All 2020 events will take
place two weeks after their customary dates the last weekend of January.
The move, a first in the event's history, was made to ensure a great
athlete experience on the heels of the big game, which will be hosted at
Miami's Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 2. More than 150,000 are expected
to flood the South Florida area for the festivities, which start in
January. The date change is a one-year-only exception.
"Life Time is so excited to partner with the cities of Miami and Miami
Beach to host our 2020 event the weekend following the big game," says
Frankie Ruiz, race co-founder and Chief Running Officer at Life Time. "The
move will ensure a better athlete experience as we welcome hundreds of
thousands to greater Miami-alleviating traffic and hotel accommodations
during this busy time."
The Miami Marathon, owned and produced by Life Time, hosted more than
25,000athletes and 15,000 spectators this year from 103 countries. Similar
numbers are expected for the 2020 event, which attracts participants with
its scenic, flat, Boston-qualifying course that provides a winter escape to
many. Athletes start outside American Airlines Arena and traverse MacArthur
Causeway to Miami Beach before returning to Miami via the Venetian
Causeway, navigating through the art district and finishing in the
beautiful bay area at Bayfront Park. The growing event also features
impressive activations, entertainment and an elevated VIP experience with
perks such as valet parking, concierge service, premium swag, pre- and
post-race massages, a cocktail reception and more.
In addition to the full marathon (26.2 miles), race weekend also includes
the Tropical 5K on Saturday, February 8 and the half marathon (13.1 miles)
on Sunday.
Early bird pricing for next year's event is now open. Monday and Tuesday,
pricing for the full marathon is $80, half marathon is $70 and the Tropical
5K is $35. Prices will increase Wednesday January 30 to $85 for the full
marathon and $75 for the half marathon and will rise throughout the year.
