TOYOTA PRIUS MIAMI TROPICAL MARATHON ATTRACTS TOP MARATHONERS

With Elite Athletes from Kenya and Belarus, Marathon gains World Appeal
MIAMI, FL (December 18, 2003) - Toyota Prius Miami Tropical Marathon and
Half Marathon surpasses the 3,200 participant mark for the inaugural
running on February 2, 2003. Top runners from all over the world are
already confirmed to compete for the $50,000 prize purse.
Presently, the Toyota Prius Miami Tropical Marathon and Half Marathon
include the most competitive elite field in the state, the largest prize
purse of any US marathon through February, and the 2nd largest marathon and
½ marathon fields in the state. Legendary Fila coach Dr. Rosa has
confirmed his own Henry Cherono (Kenya) to run the marathon. Other
confirmed elite male runners include Philadelphia Marathon winner Mike
Korir from Kenya, two-time Olympian from Trinidad and Tobago Ronnie
Holassie, Kenyan Jacob Kirwa, 2000 Colombian Olympic runner Alirio
Carrasco, 2000 Olympian Eder Moreno Fialho from Brazil, Pan American runner
from Uruguay Nestor Ariel Garcia Rivero, Brazilian Romula Wagner da Silva
and American Phil Hudnall from the Fila USA Discovery program. The women's
elite field is just as competitive with Brazil's top female runner Dione
D'Agostini, 2002 Canadian Marathon Championship winner Ludmila Kortchaguina
from Russia, Belarus' own Alena Vinitskaya and Volga Yudziankova, Russia's
Ramila Burangulova, American three-time Olympic Marathon qualifier Mary
Level-Menton, and 2002 US Pro Duathlete Champion Andrea "Rat" Ratkovic.
The 26.2 mile flat marathon course will showcase the most scenic views of
Miami, Miami Beach, and Coconut Grove while the 13.1 mile course showcases
Miami and Miami Beach.
