New York, December 29, 2011 - The application for the ING New York City
Marathon 2012 will launch on Monday, January 2, just in time to be a part
of 2012 New Year's Resolutions, it was announced today by NYRR.
The 43rd running of the five-borough spectacle, watched by more than 2.5
million spectators and a global TV audience, will take place on Sunday,
November 4. The application window for the 2012 event will open on Monday,
January 2, at 12:00 noon (EST) and close on Monday, April 23 at 11:59 p.m.

A race record 47,000-plus finishers, a men's course record by Geoffrey
Mutai of Kenya of two hours, five minutes, and five seconds, the surprising
triumph by women's winner Firehiwot Dado of Ethiopia in 2:23:15, and the
introduction of exciting new events on Marathon Weekend highlighted the
2011 race.
Two new events introduced in 2011 and returning in 2012 are the Marathon
Opening Ceremonies and the NYRR Dash to the Finish 5K. Held the Friday
prior to the race, the Marathon Opening Ceremonies featured a Parade of
Nations that highlighted runners and supporters from more than 60
countries, and the NYRR Hall of Fame induction of New York City Marathon
co-creator Fred Lebow and Marathon legend Grete Waitz. The Saturday morning
before the race saw the inaugural Dash to the Finish Line 5K. The race for
all runners – marathoners and non-marathoners alike – began at the UN
Headquarters and crossed the famed finish line in Central Park. These two
events are just a small part of the exciting marathon weekend that awaits
2012 participants.
