Stanley Biwott, Mary Keitany, Ernst Van Dyk, and Tatyana McFadden are 2015
TCS New York City Marathon Champions
New York City - November 1, 2015 - The 2015 TCS New York City Marathon
crowned four champions on Sunday, November 1, including Professional Men’s
champion Stanley Biwott, Professional Women’s champion Mary Keitany,
Professional Women’s Wheelchair champion Tatyana McFadden, and Professional
Men’s Wheelchair champion Ernst Van Dyk.
Biwott, 29, of Kenya, won his first TCS New York City Marathon title and
first Abbot World Marathon Majors race in a time of 2:10:34. After a group
of 14 runners hit the half-marathon split in a tactical 1:06:49, Biwott
surged late in the race on Central Park’s East Drive to pull away from
runner-up Geoffrey Kamworor of Kenya and third-place finisher Lelisa Desisa
of Ethiopia, winning by 14 seconds. Keitany, 33, of Kenya, successfully
defended her title and became the first woman to do so in New York since
Paula Radcliffe in 2008, winning by more than a minute with a time of
2:24:25. After a pack of nine hit the halfway point in 1:12:56, Keitany
broke away from runner up Aselefech Mergia and third-place finisher Tigist
Tufa, both of Ethiopia, to win by a margin of more than one minute.
McFadden, 26, of the United States, led wire-to-wire to win the women’s
wheelchair division in an event-record time of 1:43:04, shattering the
previous record of 1:50:24 and capturing her third-consecutive Grand Slam
of London, Boston, Chicago and New York Marathons in the same calendar
year. Overall, this is her fourth win in the Big Apple. Van Dyk, 42, of
South Africa, won the men’s wheelchair division in 1:30:54, his second win
in New York and first since 2005. He outsprinted runner-up Josh George of
the United States by one second with 200 meters to go.
Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya remains at the top of the men’s https://www.worldmarathonmajors.com Series IX standings with a total of 50 points, and Desisa
moved into a tie for second with a total of 34 points. Keitany’s victory
ties her for first place with 50 points in the women’s rankings with Mare
Dibaba of Ethiopia.

McFadden and Van Dyk with a total of 50 points and 29 points, respectively.
