   Shalane Flanagan Joins 2019 TCS New York City Marathon Broadcast Team

            Race to be televised live on Sunday, November 3, 
            on WABC-TV and ESPN2 for seventh consecutive year

        ESPN commentators John Anderson and Sage Steele to headline 
         announce team featuring nationally and locally recognized 
                   commentators, reporters, and analysts.

 Race coverage will be available in over 725 million homes around the world

New York, October 21, 2019- Former champion and U.S. Olympic medalist 
Shalane Flanagan will join the broadcast team for the 2019 TCS New York 
City Marathon on Sunday, November 3, which will be broadcast live on 
WABC-TV in the New York City area and on ESPN2 nationwide. WABC-TV and ESPN 
have been home to the award-winning broadcast of the world's largest 
marathon since 2013. The race will be available globally in more than 170 
countries territories and in over 725 million homes through various 
international broadcast partners.  

Flanagan, who in 2017 became the first American woman in 40 years to win 
the New York City Marathon's open division, will serve as a lead 
commentator. The 16-time national champion and U.S. Olympic silver medalist 
will also work with WABC-TV on pre-race programming.  

"Instead of chasing a podium finish this year at the 2019 TCS New York City 
Marathon, I'm honored to join an incredible broadcast team and take the 
next step in my career journey," Flanagan said. "I'm looking forward to 
sharing my insights on the race and the amazing athlete performances, and 
being a voice for runners from all over the world. See you at the finish 
line."

Race-day coverage begins with a preview show on WABC at 7:00 a.m. EST, 
followed by race-day coverage from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. EST. ESPN2 will 
carry the professional races from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EST. The 49th 
running of the race will also stream live on abc7ny.com, and the ABC app in 
the New York City viewing area and the ESPN App nationally from 9:00 a.m. 
to 2:00 p.m. EST. Pre-race and continuing coverage will also be streamed 
live nationally on ESPN3 (accessible on the ESPN App and ESPN.com) from 
7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A two-hour encore 
presentation of the race broadcast will air on ABC affiliates around the 
country from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST, 2:00 
p.m. to 4:00 p.m. MST, and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. PST.

The broadcast, produced in coordination with Endeavor Content and 
distributed by IMG Media, will feature 16 commentators, reporters, and 
analysts. Leading the call will be ESPN's Sage Steele, serving as the 
race-day host for the fourth consecutive year, and John Anderson, calling 
the play-by-play for the seventh consecutive year. Analyst Tim Hutchings 
and Flanagan will join them in the booth  Covering the leaders and 
reporting along the course will be three-time New York City Marathon winner 
Paula Radcliffe for the men's open division and U.S. Olympian Carrie 
Tollefson for the women's open division. The group will be joined by a 
talented array of reporters at the start, finish and along the course, 
including ABC7's Ryan Field, Sam Ryan, Amy Freeze, Anthony Johnson, 
Kemberly Richardson, Michelle Charlesworth, and Josh Einiger. The 
international feed will feature Paul Swangard calling the play-by-play with 
commentary from Juli Benson.

The broadcast covers all 26.2 miles of the marathon course utilizing 42 
cameras including aerial views, mobile cameras and various start and 
various finish line perspectives.

In addition to the coverage of the professional races, the broadcast will 
feature athlete interviews, race-week highlights, and a compelling feature 
on Team #MovedMe runner Micah Herndon, the U.S. Marine veteran who crawled 
over the Boston Marathon finish line this year. 
  
Viewers will get an in-depth look at runner biometric data through 
Performance Metrics Powered by TCS. Ten notable runners will wear a small 
electronic device that will collect real-time data for in-race analysis. 
"Sports Science" host John Brenkus will break down the Performance Metrics 
live in the broadcast, which will feature professional athletes Roberta 
Groner, the top American at the 2019 IAAF World Championships Marathon, and 
Craig Leon; former New York Giants football stars Tiki Barber and Jason 
Sehorn; U.S. Olympic gold medalists Kikkan Randall and Taylor Ritzel; The 
Bachelorette's Andi Dorfman; and NYRR president and CEO Michael Capiraso, 
who will be running in his 28th consecutive New York City Marathon. The 
data will focus on heart rate, breathing rate, and cadence and pace 
relative to the conditions of the course and environment, such as 
elevation, grade, and weather.

In the New York tristate area, WABC will air marathon coverage all weekend. 
In addition to the Sunday race broadcast, coverage of the following will be 
available on WABC and abc7ny.com as well as via Facebook Live and on the 
ESPN App nationally outside of the New York tristate area:

- Friday, November 1: 
TCS New York City Marathon Opening Ceremony, 5:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. EST
Eyewitness News sports anchor Ryan Field and meteorologist Amy Freeze will 
be joined by Shalane Flanagan will kick off the celebration for New York 
City's most popular annual sporting event, reporting from the Parade of 
Nations and the evening fireworks in Central Park.

- Saturday, November 2
Countdown to the Starting Line, 5:30 a.m. - 6:00 a.m. & 11:35 p.m. - 12:05 
a.m. EST
Eyewitness News anchor David Novarro and Shalane Flanagan take an inside 
look at top names and most interesting stories behind the biggest marathon 
in the world.

Eyewitness News Marathon Sunday, 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. EST
Sports anchors Ryan Field and Sam Ryan will host coverage from Fort 
Wadsworth on Staten Island. Meteorologists Lee Goldberg and Amy Freeze will 
report from the start, while Kemberly Richardson, Michelle Charlesworth, 
Josh Einiger, and Anthony Johnson will report from throughout the city. 
John Del Giorno will cover the race from above in NewsCopter7. 

Find Your Finisher, 10:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. EST
Friends and family can follow their runners on the TCS New York City 
Marathon app and then watch their runner cross the Central Park finish line 
in real time via abc7ny.com, presented by Michelob Ultra.

Final Finishers, 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. EST 
Though the biggest prize may go to the runner who finishes first, the most 
rewarding moment often goes to the runners who finish after the official 
race is over, known endearingly as the "Final Finishers." Starting at 8:00 
p.m. ET viewers can watch these inspiring runners be greeted by hundreds of 
well-wishers on Facebook Live and via the ESPN App streams. On May 4th, the 
TCS NYC Marathon 

In May of this year, the TCS New York City Marathon was awarded an Emmy 
award by the New York Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts 
and Sciences for its live broadcast of the 2017 race.
