Brooks Pharmacy Ocean State Marathon
2001 Prize Purse Modified

The 9th Annual Brooks Pharmacy Ocean State Marathon, to be run on Monday,
Columbus Day, October 8 from Warwick to Providence, RI, will feature a
prize purse of $112,000 in guaranteed payments by order of finish and in
bonus/ time incentives. The total purse is up from the $100,000 offered
last year and is the largest ever presented at Ocean State.
There will be $51,000 in guaranteed prizes to be distributed among the
first seven overall men and women finishers and to the first man and woman
finisher in each of seven five year age groups from 40 to 70+. The first
man and woman finishers will be awarded $10,000.
The course best bonus/ time incentive package totaling $61,000 includes:
$15,000 each for a sub 2:12:00 performance among the men and for a
sub 2:28:00 performance among the women. An event best of under 2:14:24
for men or 2:31:52 for women will yield $4000 each. A New England resident
prize of $1500 each will be awarded for a sub 2:22:00 for men and a
ub 2:40:00 for women.
In age group divisions there will be a $5000 bonus for a sub 2:16:00 for
men over 40 and for a sub 2:32:00 for women over 40, a $3000 bonus for a
sub 2:35:00 for men over 50 and for a sub 3:02:00 for women over 50 and a
$2000 bonus for a sub 2:56:00 for men over 60 and for a sub 3:35:00 for
women over 60.
There will also be award divisions for the first man and woman Rhode
Islander and for the first Rhode Island State Trooper, first Rhode Island
Fire Fighter and first Rhode Island Police Officer.
The marathon is expected to draw over 2500 competitors representing nearly
every state in the nation and numerous foreign countries. Last year's
entrant field of 1961 was the largest in the history of the race.
As has been the case for the last four years four years, the event will
benefit the Pediatric Cardiac Rehabilitation Area at Hasbro Children's
Hospital in Providence. The marathon has generated over $150,000 for the
area that provides children with monitoring and rehabilitation equipment
that is built for their size.
The scenic, point-to-point course is USATF sanctioned and is a certified
Boston qualifier.
