ETHIOPIANS, GUANGUL HIGHLIGHT QC MARATHON WOMEN’S FIELD
MOLINE, IL - Hirut Guangul (Ethiopoia) headlines the women's field at the
2016 Quad Cities Marathon, presented by Triumph Community Bank. Guangul is
looking to become the first runner, male or female, to record four overall
titles at the event. The 26.2-mile race is scheduled for a 7:30-am start,
Sept. 25th, at John Deere Commons.
Guangul is a perfect 3-for-3 in breaking the finish banner first at the
QCM. In 2012, she set the course record with a 2:35:07 win. In 2013, she
defended her title with a 2:38:50, the fourth best finish time ever at QCM.
She returned last fall to post a winning 2:39:10, the fifth best time ever.
Guangul has had similar results at other marathons. She has three victories
in 2016: Buffalo (2:38:24), Cleveland (2:40:33), and Vancouver (2:39:52).
Meseret Ali Basa (Ethiopia) is one of five others in the elite women's
marathon field. Ali Basa had a string of top performances in 2014: winning
the Donna Marathon (2:41:25), placing third at the Pittsburgh Marathon
(2:40:41), and 13th at Grandma's Marathon (2:41:05). She has a half
marathon best of 1:17:04.
Bizuwork Getahun Kasaye (Ethiopia) ran an impressive 2:42:47 to place
second at this year's Pittsburgh Marathon. She clocked a 10K in 36:40 this
year in New York City. Her best marathon was a 2:41:10 in the 2013
Genezareth (ISR) Marathon.
Bose Gemeda Assefa (Ethiopia) has some solid performances in 2016. She ran
a 35:00 10K at Shelter Island, NY and was a winner of the Ridgewood, NJ,
10K in 35:04. She also ran a 1:11:27 20K last year in Maroilles, FRA. She
ran her marathon best, 2:35, in China earlier this year.
Jenna Fiorillo (West Chester, PA) has a 2:59:40 marathon best from the 2015
Philadelphia Marathon. Fiorillo owns a 1:22:45 1/2-Marathon best and a
38:36 10K personal best. Therese Howe (Madison, WI) rounds out the elite
women's field. Howe was eighth at the 2015 Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon in
3:03:32.
Yator to Defend QCM Half Marathon Title
The QCM Half Marathon, presented by Mel Foster Co., features four runners
in the 2016 elite field.
Jebichi Yator (Kenya) returns to the QCM Half looking to defend her 2015
title. She ran 1:16:15 last year to post the second fastest half marathon
in race history, recording a 12-second win. Yator owns a 1:13:41 (Remich,
LUX) personal best. This year, she has run 1:14:16 in Indianapolis and ran
a solid 35:35 10K in Cleveland.
Andrea Rediger (Minneapolis, MN) has had a number of recent top
performances. In 2015, Rediger ran 2:47:31 (36th/Chicago Marathon) and a
2:48:41 (29th/Boston Marathon). Her 1/2-Marathon best is 1:18:27 in 2014
(6th/Park-to-Park). She also owns PR's of 17:01 (5K) and 35:28 (10K).
Angi Mook (Terre Haute, IN) placed eighth at the 2015 Veterans 1/2 Marathon
in 1:25:41. She also ran a 1:23 at the 2014 Monumental 1/2 Marathon.
Rebecca Wilder (Davenport, IA) returns to the 2016 QCM 1/2 field. She
placed third last year, running 1:26:45.
