Massah Wins Women's Race Going Away

MOLINE, IL - Elite runners took advanatge of perfect conditions at the 2018
TBK Bank Quad Cities Marathon. Kiplangat Terer (Kenya) hammered the 22nd
and 23rd mile to break open the men's race en route to a 2:14:25 win in the
26.2-mile event. The time was just 21-seconds off his course record and was
the second fastest finish in the history of the 21-year event. Joan Massah
(Kenya) won the women's race by a large margin and finished at 2:43:01. The
race was run under sunny skies, with light winds, and temperatures in low
to mid 50's F.

Terer was part of an eight person lead group and went through the half
marathon in 1:08:03. The pack broke up on Arsenal Island. At 20 miles,
Terer and Lazarus Yego (Kenya) were running stride for stride and hit the
split at 1:42:03. Just two miles later Terer surged and pulled away from
Yego on the Buttwerworth Parkway section. Terer ran his last 5K in 16:31.
Terer averaged 5:08 pace per mile on the day. Yego finished at 2:15:10, the
third fastest performance ever at the QCM.

Tadesse Yae Dabi (Ethiopia) finished in 2:16:16. He worked hard to break
free from the remnants of the pack to secure third-place. His effort was
the fifth-best ever in race history. Girma Bekele Gebre (Ethiopia) was a
solid fourth oin the day in 2:16:29 (tied/6th best ever at QCM).
